I have been going a few months now and I am looking to start using software to help me run my business.

I am set on using Squeegee to manage my rounds, customer information etc, whilst also looking to start getting customers onto GoCardless.

Looking for opinions on whether or not I will need accounting software alongside this or do most people manage without?

Another question I have is how does the direct debit with GoCardless work if customers are not done monthly, for example if I do a customer every 5 weeks can I simply just request the payment as I complete it or does it have do be done on a monthly basis?

Using Squeegee and GoCardless is great. It only requests payment after you mark the job as completed.
Squeegee have a free training course on https://www.udemy.com/ It's a bit long but you can pick and chose which bits you do.

As for accounts, I don't know as just give info to accountant but Squeegee does integrate with QuickBooks and Xero - sorry no more info on that.

I’ve just set up on Go Cardless and you can select weekly/monthly or custom. Custom will then let you select the frequency you need (so 5 weeks in your case) and then when you want it to start from, either straight away or on a selected date.

I use Cleaner Planner and don't use accounting software just CP for my accounts as for GoCardless I only make a request for payment after each completed window clean and personally wouldn't be requesting payments before work has been done

We will all need accounting software soon when we get forced onto the making tax digital way of working by hmrc
I use spreadsheets with my own formulas but will have to use specialist software for my tax
Not sure if squeegee has done this yet

No nothing from squeegee yet. Not even on the pending apps list

This is going to be a royal pain.

Im going to have to look in to this myself not looking forward to it.

We use spread sheets , accountant then does what’s needed digitally .

My Accountant has been putting a few things in place making the last two returns and paperwork I need to sign done digitally I am optimistic it will just be case of exporting a file from CP and for him to sort the rest out

Ok this was news to me.. that's sounds rubbish.

Iv been reading up on it all afternoon.

Apparently there are some apps out there that will bridge between excel and HMRC.

There are also quite a few API out there for the difference software programs, so I may end up write a script to import in to one of them as I don't use squeegee or cp.
