HI all, my name is Paul and I live on the Wirral due to a lack of work in my current job and redundancy just around the corner i am looking to sell my car, buy a van and a Water fed pole system and set up my own window cleaning business......

With the money from my car and some cash that i have saved up i will have around 12,000 pound to spend on the van/Water fed pole system.

I have been looking at the brodex system due to there office being close to where i live.

I am also thinking about going down to do some training with the British window cleaning academy as the only experience i have of window cleaning is doing my own windows at home and a friends house once a month for the last year or so

Would it be worth my while buying a round??? and how do i go about it??

Hopefully i wouldnt be wasting my time buying the van and wfp system............I just hope there work out there for me!!!

What do you think???

Buy a 2nd hand van the build ur own system as brodex system will cost you treble wat it costs to build your own. Ring me and ill tell you wat you need buddy 07849776010

Get a second hand van for 3,000 kwid

Then forget brodex just buy your own battery pump , varistream tank and hose reel /emoticons/smile.png also buy yourself a decent pole... All tgis will cost u about 800 kwid

Now get your own signprinted clothing and get your van signed up /emoticons/smile.png then buy a lot of flyers /emoticons/smile.png im total it shud only cost u about 6 grand /emoticons/smile.png bow out of that 12,000 kwid... Take 2,000 out and put it aside and use it for your bills ,, mow go out ther knock on doors etc within months ull have your expenses n bills covered if u work hard

This is wat i done /emoticons/smile.png

buy a partner van for 1500 and kit out with a pure freedom kit for about £900, get a pole from gardiners (slx25) £300 ish and then get a load of flyers printed up and go knocking all the time, dont spend any thing unless you got to and just knock as much as possible, its simple knock clean knock, after 3 months should be okl

Many thanks for all your comments guys /emoticons/smile.png

I am a plumber by trade so dont have any problems with pipes etc etc its just making sure i get the right stuff and dont mess it up putting it together. The pure freedom diy kit looks a good set up??

I want the inside of the van to look professional and not just throw together, wouldnt mind paying someone a few quid to help in the building of it.......

I would like it to just plug into the mains water at home and fill up from there over night, due to the area having hard water i think the RO system would be better for myslef then finish it off in my van with a DI botttle???

Hi Paul,

if you can have a static tank set up for the pure water, you just need to transfer it - pump it into the van tank, depending on the pump, hose & size of the tank only takes about 15 minutes to do. 4040 RO with 20” pre-filters and DI 1000lt IBC water tank can all be had for less than £1000. Have a look at Gaps water for RO filtration prices - http://gapswater.co.uk/acatalog/reverse_osmosis.html

In the van you just need a secured stainless steel frame for the water tank, with at least 2 x pumps with flow regulators - add a couple of DI to re-polish the water (the spare pump set up & 2 x DI’s in the van is not necessary but for the extra cost of about £350 it worth having) 1 x Hose reel, 1 x 25ft pole & 2 x brush. Shop around for prices; don’t know the current prices for securing the water tank.

Whatever you spend on the van, it will be eventually written off against tax. Set up cost can be written off in year 1; you probably won’t pay any income tax in years 1, 2 & 3 depending on how you do it. Yearly operating cost will be around £4-5k.

Total expenditure in the first 3 years (if you spend all your £12K) will probably be around £30k mark, give or take £5K. I think the current personal tax allowance is around £8k a year - as a guide you should be able to turn over £55-60k in your first 3 years and not pay any income tax – don’t take my advice on this get an accountant, and have a plan. /emoticons/smile.png

Good luck

Richard

Thank you everyone for your help /emoticons/smile.png glad there are people in the business that are happy to help me!!! Even tho that van on eBay is ready to go and looks great it's got high miles and I would be looking for a newer van I think it looks more professional. Thanks anyway,

Am only 22 so I think a van with 6 seats would be really expensive to insure at my age.

I need to buy myself a water tester and find out what the water is like on the Wirral.....I think it's HARD so an RO system will be the cheapest way of making my pure water, is it easier to make it with DI bottles???

Think I might take myself down to the Cleaning Show in March!!!

Also I might try and find someone in my local area who's got a WFP business and see if they will take me on for a few weeks even if its for 20pound a day or something just to learn the ropes.....does anyone think this is a good idea or will be people think am trying to take there business off them.

Hi Paul, you will probably need a RO system, i work for a company in liverpool who cover contract work for a housing assoiciaton across the wirral, send me your contact no. and you can come and have a look at how easy it is to set a diy kit up, and we could let you have a go at some pole work if you haven't used them before, cheers, Paul

Thanks Just looked at the photos that one good set-up.

What's the pure freedom system like?? Have you found any problems with it??

Even tho I haven't got any work yet I want to have a good system don't mind paying out so I've got it for a few years instead of buying **** and having to pay out again a few months down the line for new kit.....Probs going to have a two man system /emoticons/smile.png

Looking to spend £2000/3000 on the system.....

I bought mine all from pure freedom for just over £2000 incl reels and poles for 2 man system . Never let me down yet

What litre tank?

Fort it wud be more expensive

I have just got my TDS meter this morning and my water coming out the tap is 136 /emoticons/smile.png looks like i can go down the double DI bottle route which will save me some time in the mornings and will save me having to throw loads of water away with an RO system.

have you ever thought about rain water harvesting, this is what i do. this time of the year is great, in summer i go over to my ro water with resin.

there is nothing wrong with doing it yourself, its actually really easy. a tank connected to a 100 psi pump connected to a controller (pump and controller kit makes it easy) and a good leisure battery and something to strap your tank to the van.

rather spend the money on a canvasser (you get to choose your own prices or buy a small round and start up straight away. then work on marketing
