4 storey gutter clearing

I just received a phone call asking how high I go to clear guttering. The chap asked if I clear 4 storey gutters to which I repled "no as that height would be a cherry picker job". I then went on to say "your best bet is to contact a nationwide company that specialises in that type of work".

What would you have said if you had a guttervac?

Give him a price inc cherry picker.

I picked up a ridiculous job tonight. The bloke was after hedgehog gutter guards supplied and fitted. Anyway, I walk up the drive and think to myself 'this house is spotless', windows, FSG, the lot. I give him a price for hedgehog and that was too much, but he asked for a FSG clean. I'm thinking 'why!?'. Give him a price and he says, yep I'll have them done every 6 months. How long will it take he asks. Ooh, a couple of hours I say , then I clock the CCTV /emoticons/biggrin.png

Who cares, ker Ching

I have a gutter vac and I would do it... not with the gutter vac though! I would need an upper body like a world class strong man to do 4 storey gutter vac clean /emoticons/biggrin.png. I would quote with a cherry picker or mobile platform as required, though prefer a cherry picker - less work.

I had to finish a 2 storey office gutter clean with a cherry picker this week. There were a few bits that needed hand clearing since they hadn't been done in 9 years and were blocked solid. Though it was 2 storey, it was a tall 2 strorey, it was very high, and I couldn't get the tripple extension ladders high enough, so in came the cherry picker. The rest was done with ladders and a gutter vac.

earlier this year i did some at 4 storey . the hire firms usually have a ladder that size , i quoted very high for the job

I have a ladder that is technically longer than I can utilise. I can only push each extension so far up. If I was taller, then I could push each extension up more rungs each, thus getting more height. The job I mentioned above, the ladder was big enough 'on paper', but I don't have the upward reach to get it up high enough.

But, credit to you boardcity, clearing gutters 4 storeys up on a ladder is not my idea of fun

the big ladder i hired was rope operated . the hire of ladders to go 4 storey+ was anywhere between 25 and 40 quid a day. i was going to go for the cheapest option [25] until the hire shop said that ladder was "probably ok" but had been laying behind the sheds quite some time" . i hired a nearly brand new one in the end .

Put jam the foot of the ladder into the wall while lying on the ground. Extend it on the ground. And then under run it using the wall as an anchor point. It may take a while to get the right height vs angle though, so you may be better off bumping the price right up and having an extra helper to act as the wall. Personally I would $h*t myself at that height on a standard trade ladder.

id never go up that high if it was a windy day .

i do enough of the 3 storey work [some days do 5 houses in a row] that i dont fret about it,altho it is a totally different game to 2 storey and you need a helper more so if its on a hill . i charged the 4 storey gutter job out at 300 which included ladder hire + bonus for each of my workers. it took about 1.5 hours total

brings back memories of daddy sending me up that high... you had to bounce the ladder along...couldnt do it now ..too old and scared...but the ladder was that heavy it did feel solid...
