How many start and then quit?

B

boarcity

a thread about cars got me thinking. in the 6 yrs iv been a windie i reckon iv seen DOZENS who started about the same time but have quit . some had sign written vans really smart ,website the lot Most in family saloon cars but then you suddenly dont see them

why do they quit ? after a year or under

My guess would be that allot of people don't know what graft needs to be put into window cleaning untill they do it themselves, and also winters could be an issue, rewards come to those who graft for it.

i remember before i started i saw this windie in a gleaming Escort van, smiling broadly as he drove by . i thought to myself ,i want some of that, happy in his work, yeh why not be a windie

maybe it was his last day thats why smiling as iv never seen him since !

I think people assume it's an easy job

give em 1 winter trying to squeegee a window while water is starting to freeze and they don't think it is such an easy ride

also canvassing can get you down if not used to all the rejections

"Chin up and muddle on and you'll be ok"

he he great post boar..if i ever get talking to other tradesmen....they inevitably say....i used to clean windows...

i think a lot start out and think this is great....especially on a nice spring day ..but then comes the november gloom and they think what the....

me i love the changing seasons..the constant challenges that come my way...and look forward to getting straight with my work...each week of late i have said to the wife should be straight this week.....:Dstill saying it...

i spose some came from the building trade and now thats on the way up again back theyv gone to it.

I gave up after 8 years for a management job for a friend.6 years later and 3 stone heavier I thought why am I sitting in an office getting fat when I could be outside getting fit

you hate it when you are doing it but miss it when you stop

ditto daveyboy1 ...becca on here is not too happy as apparently the licence fee varies from council to council but the cheap licence holders can still travel into the dearer licence holders area to work ...

and she got a licence for one employee who quit shortly afterwards and they wouldnt refund....

one thing i have always thought especially if a job like my mansion from hell comes along is at least its keeping me fit...i dont need to got to the gym anyway...

You need a licence per council area not a licence to work in the whole of Scotland. There for I have 2 licenses because I work over 2 different coucil regions.

If I remember right becky is from inverness so she would need a license from inverness council if she worked in an area say banf aswell she would also need a license from Banfshire council. If it were me getting a license for an employee I would have them sign a contract that if they leave within a certain period they would be liable to pay for the license that would be deductable from there last pay..

ahh clever idea...i am only interested as i fancy clearing off your way i am sick of all the traffic around here....

my run to manchester airport gave me very high blood pressure....

I reckon most just don't make the money they think they can make. We all know you can make £££s with WFP, but there is that initial investment, and if the customers don't come rolling in then you have to pay that off, and spend a lot of time looking for work, against a lot of competition. I suppose you could buy a round or pay a canvasser, but that's just another expense before you see the money come back.

...its a tough industry, especially in the early days.

I think that some turn into Handyman set up's. I have been asked hundreds of times if I do painting, decorating, Can you fit me a new cat flap? etc etc. Then they drift into bigger jobs and the window cleaning gets forgotten.

I am under no illusion that it's easy..starting from scratch again and driving lorries the other half of the day till I can afford to jack the driving in

why people think it's so easy baffles me..have they never seen a windie hanging on to a sill by his fingertips on a windy rainyday.

Easy my ****

today , while working ,a new 14 plate transit pulls up nearby , lad hops out and reels out a new looking wfp and walks by me water spraying out a good 3 foot [i was footing a 3 storey ladder] , as he walks past he mutters ,"wudnt get me on that" , and i smile. minutes later he is back ,comes up to me "why dont u have one of these and a pukka van like me" / i say,im not interested in them / he then starts banging on about how much he earns and where he works"everywhere and anywhere mate" ..tho iv never seen him in 6 yrs anywhere

after listening a bit longer i finally snap back "youre full of sh/t " which made my workers laugh
