Starting out..... Again.

Hi all.

Long story short... My dad started a window cleaning round in 1965, and from a very young age i worked along side him on and off over the years, and had my own round too. When he died in 2001 he had cleaning contracts with all the American air bases in East Anglia, house cleaning, carpets and windows.

I've been out of the window cleaning business for alot of years, but desperately want to get out of the job i'm in and i always really enjoyed window cleaning. Luckily i finish every day at 12 noon. I'm basically starting over with nothing, roof rack is on order and i'm now about to go see our local window cleaning equipment supplier (soap international).

I've spoken with a couple of local window cleaners who have said they'll pass on any jobs they don't want, in fact they said they've turned down one or two recently.

Why don't i use all the gear my dad left behind i hear you ask... well my stepmother sold it all, before my old mans funeral.

Welcome mate. Now is a prime time for starting up. The sun is shining through peoples windows and showing up all the crap, and the husband gets nagged to make a phonecall.

Tools are cheap, and you already have experience so you should hit the ground running.

Thanks for the replies. Picked up the basics yesterday, applicators, squeegees and a bucket. Roof bars should be here Friday, i've got an old two tier wooden ladder but need to get some steps.

I'm in Framlingham mate, so not far from Southwold, Aldeburgh etc... my dad use to do a couple of hotels in Aldeburgh.

You would think at 52 (almost) i wouldn't be buzzing so much about getting started. Anyway thanks again for the positive replies. Got to get off to the job i hate now, i start at 6am every morning, hope you all have a good day.

Garry.

Good luck Garry I was in the same position as you my dad started window cleaning in cornwall and I joined him for a couple of years before starting my own round I ran it for twelve years before I moved onto the rat race what a mistake but I've made it back and I'm really enjoying it.

This is a great forum mate and really helped me to reach my goals.

Thanks again for the replies. Got a Harris pole at the weekend, and now starting to spread the word that i'm looking for customers with friends and family. I even put a little flyer i made on the PC under the wiper blade of the local window cleaner this morning, he's a friend so hopefully he'll take it as a joke as intended.

Get a facebook page and post a link to it on as many local community and swap and sell sites etc as you can find once a day

You'll be surprised at the extra work that trickles in bit by bit on top of your canvassing

Just make sure you make the page from a personal fb account or they will shut it down if it is purely a business account
