Hi guys,

Found out today that my current insurer won't insure me with a fixed tank over 500 litres, bascially had the van insured with them before it was fitted out then called them up to tell them about the fixed tank and other bits I want insuring as goods in transit etc, had a shop about briefly with others and getting silly quotes, who do you use for your van insurance, fixed goods in transit and removable goods in transit as looking for new insurer within the next 7 days.

I have a 400 ltr tank. I insure with A-Plan.

I will be upgrading to a 650,........Hope you are not with A-Plan or I might be in the same situation.

They can't penalise you for carrying water, they wouldn't penalise a builder for carrying a ton of bricks round....

Separate business insurance is available for goods in transit and tools/equipment etc.

It seems some insurers can when it comes to fitted water tanks, my current insurer has now ceased my insurance after I told them about the fitted tank stating that they would only insure up to a 500L tank and would incure a £89 fee to allow it, but that £89 fee is only a fee to allow me to drive legally in the van, if it was stolen they would not pay out the £7500 extra which would cover my tank system.

I have been dealing with GT insurance in Notts who have given a quote which included the van and cover for all fixed items but not items that can be stolen out the back ie poles etc, so will try A-plan and see what they quote. It may the a case of insuring the van and fixed equipment with one policy and all removable items with a seperate policy.

A-Plan have quoted the best for me, fully covered with a 650L tank plus other parts of system ie webasto heater, all costs added on to van value but they say with receipts for the system then in the event of a claim down the line only deprication of the van would be taken in to account, as that was my worry as generally equipment goes up not down in time. They state it would be replaced like for like.

Got it for around the same cost as my last insurer who was just covering the van with no fixed system in, so not bad really. Just hoping to get the rebate from old insurer asap as I payed in full back in March this year.

Alexander Swan Insurance Services Ltd

They specialise in window cleaning and will cover you for public liability too.

They will cover gear to in the van, poles, system ect even supply a van and system if yours is stolen or damaged in an accident.

Give them a call, very helpful

All for a very large premium!! Tried them a while back when I was in talks with Ionic about having one of there rather expensive systems and even buying one of there systems whom they work closely with Alexander Swan they were a total rip off and not at all that helpful with me, I guess keeping 2 or 3 vans in stock with zero systems ready to go if yours breaks down is heavily loaded on the policy.

The last time I had a quote as high was when I was 18 trying to insure a XR2 lol!

Shame that Trev81, I have used them foe 8 years.

I only have a basic fully comp cover now but that does cover my poles and system in an accident

but poles not covered if they are nicked out of the back.

I might call them up some time and double check premium and value of system and poles they

would replace it with in a smash.

You got me thinking £55.25 is bloody cheep

Hi I'm looking for van insurance tank was fitted by pure freedom bolted through chassis I'm currently insured with Aplan I bought a new van just over a year ago then in January this year I was driving up a side road in Mansfield when a crazy polish lady decided that stopping at a junction was optional made a right mess of the side of van to the cost of £7000 the fun started then took three months to sort it as repairing garage approved by Aplan were a bunch of Cowboys had to take van back four times to eventually get it nearly right anyway now I'm very disenchanted with going with Aplan for another year checked Alex swan premiums are v high but the market in insurance seems so narrow for insuring vans with tanks in back any other insurers pic at bottom is the damage van had
