Lately I've been thinking about cash flow as I'm now going from self employed to running as a company what sort of % of your yearly takings is normal to keep back as cash flow so you can grow you company ?

How long is a piece of string?

First you need your targets. once you have the target then you work out what percentage.

Example - I want to put a static 2000L tank with top end RO/DI insulated along with elements to fight frost etc and boosted to ensure 2000L every 6 hours.

I want to do this in the next 4 weeks.

(All thats gibberish just an example of how to lay out a goal)

Total cost - £1000

4 Weekly takings £4000

So the answer is 25%

May seem basic egg sucking as it were but really it's that simple

My growth plan is to add another van next March (not an employee, just a vanfor various other tasks) Cost of second hand van and various bits for it £8k.

Takings between now and then £20k so to realize it I need to put aside 40%

As I say first you have to have the goals laid out.
