Just for fun guys

Let's see people's take on it

I was out of work for nealy a year about 6 something years ago and needed a job I got one with a cleaning contracter

I was having a hard time in my personal life last year with a company I was working for and was signed off for 6 weeks

I handed my notice in and found another job was given the job then week before I started had a letter saying they no longer wanted me to work for them

So now I am where I am and enjoying it

I know I'm a bloody good window cleaner and believe I'm a people's person from working with customers face to face for well All my working life and using my heart break and lows to good use

What's yours ?

After working in social care all my adult life,I got bored of the politics and needed a change. I was spending more time doing risk assessments and care plans than actually providing real life meaningful support and change.

So...my pal said let's start up a window cleaning business. I hadn't even picked up an applicator in my life. This was last January or February.

I went on the sick for a few weeks and began canvassing, and immediately noticed there was a gap in the market for a proper service doing frames and doors here as standard.

My mate backed out of the whole plan, and so I just kept rolling with things. I think mid to late last March I officially started...that is when I have my first texts on work phone etc.

Very scary doing all this on your own but the reward is huge. Personally I live and breath it...although do need to find more of a balance.

4 years ago I left my job in Italy and I moved in Liverpool with no english for a new life's experience,in Liverpool I met a guy who helped me to move in a small village in northern Ireland I've lived with an English family for 2 years who tought me the language and helped me to start Window Cleaner working 1 day per week at the beggining with my ex boss, now I work on my own most of the time trying to get more costumers I am almost there but it's been very hard [emoji23]

Was in army, got out, worked on call centres& warehouses and hated it. After being jobless for a while Father in law offered me a weeks work cash in hand on the glass, loved it. End of the week said he'd keep me on, signed off that day. 3 months later started building own round as well. 2 years later I'm still working with him till 12, then out till 3 6 days a week, and loving it. Never go back to other work

Worked for minimum wage all my life. Ex girlfriend of 10 years who I habe kids with buggered off with someone else taking the lot. Ended up living with my mum at 32yrs old without a penny to my name and pretty suicidal to be totally honest. Lost my job due to depression then eventually decided I was going to change my life. Setup valeting cars got a part time job and went from there. Now full time on the glass, new gf and new family and sit here writing this sat on a balcony in italy. (Got to fly home tomorrow though /emoticons/sad.png). Self employmentioned has given me a sense of pride, a reason to get up on a morning and unlimited possibilities. I love it, there's times when I hate it but it's the best thing I've ever done I wouldn't go back to employment for anything.

I worked for a bank for 12 years and like Chris got fed up of the politics. Before I had a round set up I handed in my notice and used the flight or fright method. Once I handed in my notice they offered me my own branch to run, turned it down. That was in the may and in the November got another call to offer me another bigger branch, asked how much and told them that I was earning more doing this. Plus work better hours with much less stress. I did get a bit of luck as two months after I started my parents window cleaner was retiring and couldn't find any to pass it on to. He gave it to me for nothing and I built it up from there. I worked hard at it to get it going but best choice I ever made

What's interesting about this is that most of us were out of work and that's how we started window cleaning
Same here for me, I started window cleaning as a side line as the warehouse I was working in was going bad, kept getting told sorry there is no work, after I started Window cleaning I realised right away this could become a decent backup. After going away on Holliday for a few weeks arrived back in to Britain to find a letter at my door from my then current employer, You are no longer required no redundancy offer as the business is in administration.

I got redundancy after a fight but took Window cleaning on from there, this was 1year and 2 months ago starting with just a ladder and cheap mop squeegee and bucket. Now I have around 400customers and 4 development cleans.

Worked for best mates dad whole at school on the glass on Saturdays and holidays and carried on when i left apart from a stint in the army and then carried on in the reserves for a few years while on the glass

That was in 1991 when i left school so about 1989 when i started

Tried other jobs when the firm i subbed off sold up but was born to be a windie

Funny as i had no problems with authority in the forces but can't work for someone as I don't do well being told what to do

Best job in the world i reckon

I'm the same, authority didn't bother me in the army, but when a civvy was bossing me about I hated it. Probably because in the army you have to earn authority, in civvy street it can be due to qualifications or ass kissing, not 100% how good you are at your job

I did my first stint of window cleaning helping out someone I had known most of my life then from 17 to 25 years old I had various jobs which I left or was laid off,

Not long after meeting my wife I was out of work and had the opportunity to start cleaning windows in the village I grew up in so bought trad gear and set up March 30th 2000 and just kept on going as later that year we had bought our first house and were married, Mother in-law asked my wife when I was going to get a proper job  before we were married .

Over the last 17 years I have hated it loved it and even considered jacking it in but for quite a few years now things have been really good

From car panel beater/sprayer restoring vintage cars to selling Insurance to having my own financial advising business which I ended in 2008, I've invested well into the property market & locate ideal BTLs for investors, I also manage a few for other landlords.. I've also done a 9 month stretch inside.. I do love this Outdoor Cleaning though..

I have been self employed for 18 years, working as an agent sourcing aluminium scrap and mixed fragmentised metals for the UK and Chinese markets. In 2010 my son wanted to leave his job as he spent a lot of his time working away. 2010 wasn't a good time to be changing careers, after a good look round I decided that the "new reach and wash" system seemed a good idea. So I set him up in business, I also was going to help him on the business side. After 2 years of struggling, and me topping up his wages he decided to "go back to Uni" By now I'm into it for about £40k and because I was waiting for an op on my Rotator Cuff got a local young lad to service my customers.

After 2 years he decided to move to Scotland, for a girl, and gave me a months notice. As I was about to fly for a 2 week Caribbean holiday I decided that when I got back rather than rush in to getting someone else I would do it myself for a short while. After a few months found I was really enjoying the outside life and now do it myself. Money isn't anywhere near as good, yet, and for a 53yr old is hard work but it is something I'm enjoying, growing the business, and when my turnover gets to £50k I will bring someone else on board to help the old man.

I was sat on a roof enjoying the sunshine in North Lincs today cleaning away.

A pair of our finest Eurofighter Typhoons put on a ding dong show as the practicesd their dare devil manouvers at what looked suicidally low levels.

As they buzzed me one last time on their way back to base I heard through the fusealage.....

"Ice Man, what do you say we go halves on a van and start a window round??

Roger that, monies gotta be better than this gig Maverick...

Copy... will hand in the keys to this junker and tell the Wing Commander where he can shove his P45 soon as we get back..

Roger... my mate also knows a guy that sells water so we dont need to go full on with a RO in case it's a bit slow starting out"

All I thought was couple of cowboys like that will never stick it out. /emoticons/smile.png)

I was a care worker, was a good one to as the clients told me. And then they just started to cut my hours, from 50 to doing an hour a day, then they started cutting my days. A lady's father who I was looking after was complaining about her Windows so I said I would do them. Spent my Saturday and Sunday practicing and was cleaning her house by Monday. Picked up a few more then got given a pub to clean. Ain't really looked back since.

I was a UK lead in specialist lubrication for last few years, absolutely loved it, great salary, pension, car etc... Discovered I had a heart condition and following medical advice took the plunge to give Window Cleaning a go totry and restore some sanity to life by reducing stress levels. as of today I do over 300 domestic cleans per month - happy, less stressed and homelife now brill. (Me bird has had a change of career due to surviving great cancer)
