Place ladder on stones, stand on bottom rung and bounce on it, ladders digs into stone, climb up. Job done, do same on wet grass as well

My pet hate. Hate setting a ladder on these I normally kick it out of way to get to the ground itself but sometimes that takes for age or your ment with a ground sheet of some kind. What's the best way of using ladders on these ?

I don't have any problem with it, Just wiggle the ladder feet about until it beds in, quit safe.

I stand on the bottom rung and jump up and down a bit until I feel they are safe. If it's really bad I might get my ladder stabilisers out, they are permanently attched to the bottom section of the ladder. With them extended the ladder isn't going anywhere.

I have these ones as I work in a lot if uneven places

I wrote about these a couple of weeks back. Slipped whilst I was up ladder. Turned my brown shorts browner.

Got a Ladder M8trix next day. Having used it a couple of times I can honestly say I will never use a ladder again without it.

Yes, I used to jump up and down, until one day the bottom rung came off, so I don't do it anymore!!

Would you believe that the day after posting this reply, my bottom rung came off!! So now I have fixed it up myself. The last time I did I could not get anyone to weld it back on (aluminium welding is specialised), because of Health and safety regulations.

It is inherently unsafe putting ladders on unstable ground but we have all done it

Nowadays those windows would be done either wfp or trad pole from the ground

I won't take the risk anymore for a few quid

I done traditional ladder work for years (using double extension A frame ladder) never used any of these things and I never had any problems. Then again the wide splay at the bottom of the ladder means I can't! But just give the ladder a wiggle and jump on first rung if you're unsure. I always have the ladder steeper (as opposed to the feet being far out) I would never do work with a conventional H ladder. A all the way!

I've not used ladder stops since I used to trad my 3/4 story commercial work. That's all wfp now. No way I would be using em on my domestic as they are too time consuming and plus I've only two hands. One for my ladder and one for my bucket. Alls you need is a good set of properly fitted spikes and the occasional foot off one of your lads. If your on your own you will have to stick to your wfp.

Call me old school and I don't want to put anybody down but if your not confident climbing a two story ladder then your in the wrong job.

The worlds goin health and safety mad I tell ya. Window cleaning has always had an element of risk involved. That's why people pay us to do it rather than do it their selves.
