Paying an employee cash

I say an 'employee' he's only been with me 3 days so it could all change at any time. Legally do I need to do anything when I give him cash tomorrow, Like get him to sign a receipt?

Probably not the most sensible place to announce cash in hand work so hopefully you mean you're paying his wages in cash.  Yes do a payslip (you can buy cheap ones from Staples) and give that to him with the money.  Also make a record of all your payments to him for your end of year and PAYE.  Definitely upgrade your insurance to employee cover too because you won't be able to claim if he does anything to the properties you're working on.

Why cash ? If its not a dodgy deal i really cant see why youre not doing a bank transfer .. easier for both parts
