You should have a connector/reducer to fit to the ends.. If you dont you could use tape as a temporary fix

The the smaller side of reducer I got fits inside the adaptor but this means there's a bottleneck.  The bigger side isn't big enough to go over outside. 

Mate I think you need a different size reducer to stop that happening. 

It probably won't cause that many problems.. No matter how big the tubes are they can always get blocked if what your sucking is big... I just keep a screwdriver in my pocket to clear the blockages when they occur. 

We use a bucket and pick up a glug of water every few mins, long term we're planning to run a clean water feed along the pipe into the neck of the pipe so the pipe keeps lubricated.
