Best way to start up on your own

Hi folks just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on starting up on my own. I've thought about doing flyers but I know that I don't even look at anything that comes through the letterbox. What is the best way to generate customers? Do you have to spend money to make money? I'd truly appreciate any advice.

I'm just starting up myself. I'm sure the experienced guys on here will tell you, knocking on doors is the best way by far. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think leaflets average about 1% success rate. I've seen a couple of people who have used Facebook and nothing else. Good luck. Where abouts are you?

In addition to all the replies you'll get on here. Have a good look around the forum. Lots of past posts with information. Also check out YouTube there's some great info on there too.

I'm in Fife, Scotland.

Watch out for glue in your locks and death threats up there  :1f632:  im sure @Chris33 will warn you off his patch

Two ways to do it, either canvassing, leaflets, facebook or buy a round/pay for canvassing if you have the money.

I've no tried anything yet bud. I'm working for somebody at the minute and the pays alright. Just looking for some info

Well I just checked and there is no window cleaners listed on Google my business for leven Fife.

https://www.google.com/business/

Here is the link to making up an account with a company name of your choice.

That alone will do some damage in leven, you'll get calls off that and there is barely any competition there online.

If u was to make a Facebook business page that also could be helpful and u can boost posts in leven, I can help u with them two things if u like Google business and fb.

Apart from that aye u can canvass doors, which works well and maybe going to the high street and seeing if there is some shop fronts up for grabs to start with?

Hi Chris, do you have a google business page? I had a look on your profile but did not see a link.

If so could you provide a link please?

Alright Chris mate I set up a Google business page and a Facebook page. Waiting for Google sending out a postcard with the verification code. I'm going to wait until the new year before I pump some money into it and really get the ball rolling. Was looking at the 1 day course run by Darren about setting up a business. Do you know much about that bud?

Hi Bob yes I have seen the curriculum and I think there is elements in there that even an experienced cleaner could learn from..

Thats entirely your choice wot u think is best to spend cash on. Even if u go on Darrens course wot u are setting up now, are things he would help u maximise on. Would i go on the course personally ? No. But i understand why many would and yes it will pay for itself and then some.

I used my local football team name East Fife. I was going to use my last name but figured I'd maybe get more work with East Fife
