Too expensive

Priced a job today 60 pound to clean gutters and all pvc on a semi detached house with a big pine end. The told me I was too expensive and got a quote a lot lower. I know people charge a lot more than that can't get over how some people want it done for next to nothing.

Its ok mate, let them take the lower quote (if there even is one) half the time they just say it and you know its not the case they just want a cheapy. If someone does do it for lower you can bet theyll be new and will charge more the next time they do one

Youve done the right thing. Many people prey on new businesses to get a cheapy. We nearly went bust after 5 months, not charging enough didnt help. Equipment costs money and so does being alive. Dont make the same mistakes i did!

You did the right thing. I would of charged easily £100 for that. Not sure what area you are in but most people are happy to pay that kind of price.

Now I have never been one one for quoting over the phone but with gutters we used to to Google Map the property first to see what it was like.  Always ask the customer on the phone... 'what type of proerty is it?' so you know you're looking at the right one.  Two bed terrace, three bed semi etc etc.......

'As long as the access is easy Mr Smith you're looking between £110 and worst case £140 sir.  (or whatever price you want to quote) If that's ok then I can pop by Wednesday'

Eliminates messers over thr phone right away.

I have cusromers with £500'000 homes that wont spend £200 to ensure the gutters are in good order.  Nowt strange as folk.

If they dont want to pay I got other things to be doing.

Best advice from here was set your hourly rate, see how fast you can work and stick to it. Will always be other guys cheaper, or dearer. But you will get annoyed with the houses you under quote...

You've done the right thing mate. Often you will get people like this later come back to you cos they find out actually you were charging going rate.

Had a job today for all gutters in and out, Conny roof and house windows. Went through it all, said so you're looking at £300 for... And with that she said no thank you. And just opened the gate for me to leave [emoji23]

Haha it's a great laugh in it when people are like that. Some seem to get proper pisses off haha

The problem is most of us want a fair bit more than window cleaning money to do awkward jobs like gutter cleaning and fsg etc.

I could never find customers in my area that were willing to pay what I wanted to do add on work, hence I don't bother anymore and just clean windows.

Strange that if it was a plumber in a old scruffy van wearing dirty pullover quoting to fix some plumbing they would probably say yes to the quote of several hundred pounds, but they see cleaning windows ,gutters etc as different!!!!!! both need skills, whether it is cleaning windows streak free(which is why some people like interiors done every so often), or fitting a new bog from B&Q.

Adam...I get quite a few round here to do that aren't my window cleaning customers at decent prices.

I always go take a look and have a talk with them....tell them exactly what I will be doing for the money.

Got one tomorrow just off Common Lane in East Ardsley....gutters, fascias and all windows on a not too big detached at a decent price.

Wasn't £300 though.

There's also the question of fitting it in as well. But I supposed they are good for rain days.
