Got to stop saying never.......

I'm thinking of starting up but not sure of whether you can build a reasonable business just around pressure washing or not

Would be interested in people's views on their experience and the best approach to finding work especially once the Easter rush has gone !

If you have a strong advertising strategy (website, facebook paid advertising, leaflet distribution) you can make a good living out of it. Just buy equipment that is up to the job. Nothing worse being halfway through a job and it fails.

To be honest, in terms of pressure washing alone, i do consider it seasonal. Especially if you live inland. Our Pressure washer goes in the garage middle of november & doesnt come out again until April. If you have a hard winter with lots of freezes then you could be out of work for 5 months. Also last thing you want is to jet wash a driveway only for it to freeze into an ice rink the following night. Water doesn’t evaporate this time of year, it sits for days.
The work is definitely out there, but getting it at a price you can afford to work for is another matter.
When it comes to re-sanding etc, it rains one out of three days even in the good months. So we try and time it bang on so that we know at least the re-sanding day will be dry.
If you went down the commercial route and did graffiti removal, walls, softwashing, roofs etc then yeah i reckon the work is there, but breaking in to that market would be hard. In terms of domestic work i wouldn’t bank on a full time pressure washing business fella

I'm the same said green but after long winter on windows only and few enquiries regarding pressure washing I've decided I'm going to do the ones I fancy still
Come Friday I've had enough windows so add on will be rainy days or weekends

Totally agree. There’s no way on gods earth could I go out window cleaning on a Saturday after doing it all week.

I only take on pressure washing jobs now that I know I can be done by half 12, and no more than 2 a month as I only do them on Saturdays (when Millwall are playing away lol)

Personally think it’s impossible to get pressure washing jobs to keep you busy 5 days a week all year round

We do some pressure washing jobs nice change from windows but there’s no way we could get enough to keep us going all year , I price it well as if we don’t get it it doesn’t matter but if we do it’s worth doing , we don’t work weekends only Monday-Friday all work and no play ———

Aye it can be done, very slow this time of year and from October onwards really. But Ive managed to get it so that i work from feb-November solidly with the peaks being a rush in early Feb (first sunny day gets the phone ringing, also helped by throwing out a good paid ad at that time on facebook) follow on calls from reccomendations and drip feeding paid ads at around £10 per week keeps it going until the next main rush (pre easter) then steady away until the doldrums of the six week holiday, picks up again early sept and trails off through the autumn until downtime again. I do make the majority of my income from pressure cleaning now.

The key is to know your audience (women only and only over 25's in your facebook ad target description) and price  sensibly if your looking at it more than a sideline. dont low ball people as you might think £150 a day is great......until you realise you spent £30 on materials, ran the van there and back three times (one to quote, one to clean, one to sand/seal) have forgotten about your payments to insurance and the tax man.....and, WINTER IS COMING!

it takes a decent amount of time to run it as a stand alone business as it requires a lot of good feedback and a hell of a lot of non intrusive marketing (IE good website, well maintained social media pages etc). but it can be done certainly. Ive never cleaned a window that i didnt first coat with a fine mist of sand and crud.

Sorry for the thread hijack, just wanted to let this guy know that its not beyond the realms of possibility, no im not booked 5 days a week all of the time but its certainly not uncommon.

Also Nice job there green :) did you repair the mortar or was it in a decent condition to start with? looks great!
