Hello everyone,

I got a problem. I can not find any solution to clean windows of my client, so please if you can advise.

Render of property of my client has been cleaned by steam cleaner, some of windows are covered with white marks, streaks, dots etc., Impossible to remove, I have tried rubbing alcohol and blade. Doesn`t work. Is there any other chemical does the job? Render is made of some silicone i think. I attached 2 pictures.

Thank you.

Render like that should never be power washed for that exact reason , try white spirit or something similar in Ireland Ouse a product called ecosolve it’s the same kinda stuff you guys use to get the residue left behind by sticker when windows are new tbh don’t think anything will work I have heard of lads buffing out with very fine sandpaper

Sandpaper.... Your having a laugh, if you try that on those marks you'll have a very big bill to pay, I'd try in one corner limescale Remover or I've use in the past is methylated spirit but wot ever you try do a small test area.

I had a mansion thay had been painted, n it was like paint wash over the windows, i bought steel wool that was graded "00000" five zeros. Not just fine wool.  I had even bought concrete remover spray that didnt shift it.

This was the only stuff that got it off, a company called trollull do a sponge specific for glass cleaning for removing paint n varnish from glass £5 for two, they do stove cleaners too, its not them.

I cleaned

I cleaned about 60 windows that had 12 long thin panes eac, took alot of work, but customer happy, as otherwise wouldnt see well out of windows.

Can you not soap it up with hot water and use a 4" scraper the razor blade type from unger? If that doesn't shift it then 0 will unless some sort of cleaner works. Let us know how you get on.

Their a company here that can sand and buff. Scratching out of glass not ur average sandpaper specialist equipment I seen before and after did the job fine from a dope of a window cleaner who scratched toughened glass

Yeah, I saw a video of a bloke who went to town - on a tempered shop glass that had been dented with a brick or something - with an angle grinder and buffed it up.

Looked mint. But really not worth it time wise unless it is for a huge pane with special glass like that.

I use my 4" Unger scraper on every first clean. Soap it and use the scraper in one direction and comes up great. never had a problem but don't do it on dry glass or you will scratch it. :1f609:

Damn right. The amount of new builds I take on that are scratched to hell by the dodgy builders cleans is unbelievable.

It’s pretty much the standard of the rest of the work on these new houses. One of my mates is a painter that does a lot of site work and the stuff he tells me is shocking.

Doing tons of new builds round Renfrewshire and the way they are cutting corners is disgusting. These homes are meant to improve the housing problem but I honestly don’t see them still standing, or at least in good condition, in 50 years. Non of the gardens have drainage and the lists of snagging work each of my customers have is ridiculous! One of them across the Clyde went on fire a few weeks ago after getting struck by lightning. This wasn’t a partly built house, it had been finished and lived in for 6 months!

Shocking! I cant believe the prices they are getting for the Brookfield estate and they are selling fast some are over £400k. Its all about speed to get the money in but as you say it will come back to haunt the home builder.

Will it, though? These houses have a ten year warranty and that’s that. I recon they’ll get away with it, unfortunately.

They're like an Argos value kettle new houses.... Built to last just longer than the warranty!! I think we will see a lot of issues with them in the next few years. They started pumping money into homes at the end of the last recession, just under 10 years ago.... Incidentally the warranty on some is 10 years ?

If I come across a job which i class as a builders clean then I won't touch it as I don't have the time to be cleaning up after other trades, Client about 10 weeks ago now had new extension built and house rendered they left quite a lot on the new windows I told him he I wasn't prepared to touch the windows at all and he needed to get the builders back out as if the units are damaged I ain't been held responsible for any damaged glass.
