Solar panels are extremely strong as they have to conform to EU regulations which means they have to be able to withstand the largest possible hail storm. The reason I know this is because I got chatting to an engineer on a job when they were installing pannels. Hope this helps.

So what way would you clean the solar panels.

WFP or go on roof and clean with scrubber and squeegee?

wfp because the water would go into rain water tanks so no detergent

Same view here - WFP is the best.

I can't remember where I saw it, but apparently when the installers fit the panels a lot of them wear rubber insulated gloves to prevent shocks, and it was reccommended that if using a pure carbon fibre pole - slx etc that you consider wearing rubber gloves.

I got one of my customers to measure his output on 2 days - before and after cleaning, and he had an increase of 30% output, with it kicking in earlier in the day. Now he and most of my solar panel cleans are carried out every 6 months.

I tend to charge £1 per panel - bungalow & garage, £2 per panel - house.

It can sometimes be difficult convincing customers to clean solar panels more frequently, as they do not really see the dirt until they get really bad.

I think this is another one of those occasions where we need to highlight the need to the customer.

I have been talking with a local solar panel installer - getting him to tell the customer about the benefits of cleaning - while he is installing them.

Hopefully that will help.

I have been asked by large solar panel companies; what’s the best way to clean the panels - after much discussion, and then test - The glass covering the panels will most likely always be self cleaning; so the best thing is - pure water only, (no detergents) and use a Boars hair brush.

You can use a fine artificial monofilament, but depending on what dirt is on the panel you can be there cleaning for much longer than you expect.

Artificial monofilament can’t clean self cleaning glass as fast as a Boars hair brush; and the risk of damage when using artificial filaments; with excessive scrubbing of the panel(s) increases the likelihood of any damage occurring to the panels.
