How to complete tax return when subcontracting

I have subcontracted to a guy, he is retired and only does 1 to 3 days a week to help keep me upto date on my round. He has set himself up as self employed so he can sort his own tax and national insurance from what i pay him, how do i account for what i pay him on my cash basis tax return. Please help

Just deduct his invoices for work from your gross. It’s just another expense.

He's not self employed if he is only doing the work you give him, for you to claim him as an expense he will have to invoice you and for you to treat it as any other expense.
