Trolly v backpack on a trolly

Apart from 3L more water and cost if you buy from supplier, what is difference?

Guess as a newbie to wfp I don't understand why people spend hours making there own trolly when for simler money you can strap a backpack to a sack barrow? I'm sure there I a good reason but I can't think what, hence the question?

If you build your own then you know how it all goes together and can maintain and repair quite easy. You can also make it to your needs. i.e. do you want remote control, bigger battery, chemically resistant pump to name but a few things. Plus some people get satisfaction from building stuff ?

Buying one is easy and relatively cheap but it will be a compromise. Sometimes it's good to start with basic kit to learn what you want from decent kit by using the basic stuff. i.e. do you need variable speed or is just on and off OK, do you need more capacity, is the one you have too heavy. etc....

I built my own trolley system because I have an in depth specialist knowledge of electronics and mechanical engineering.

My design is easy to maintain and is future proofed with scope for improvement or modification

The sheer pride of having someone you made with your own hands out weighs some plastic rotomould blue and yellow thing everyone else has.

Also when people stop you in the street and ask where you got your system from and you say I built that they are blown away.

It's easy buying something that someone else made but when it goes tits up do you have the ability to repair it, change out parts without hours of phone calls and questions of what parts what etc.

I'm sure that most of the big name items are all made in the same shenzhen factory under a license brand name exclusivity contract

Sound reasoning, so more of a personal choice, no real difference when it comes to doing the job?

???Very true

Yeah that's the one I'm getting, think 20m should be enough.

Is there a preferd hose thickness and connectors? It comes with options?
Standard pole hose 6mm ID using rectus21 quick release fittings secured with double ear O clips will be fine.

Just so you know my SLX27 has a 10m pole hose as standard! You can ask Gardiner to supply a pole with 20m pole hose for a little extra. Alternatively you need say a 10m hose with appropriate connectors to go on backpack and pole.

As for hose fittings you can choose what you like ez snap (rectus 21), hoselock, pro26 etc. I think most popular is the ez snap, male on pole hose and female on BP as female has end stop so water stops when you disconnect pole hose.

I'm going for slx22, ez water stop sounds useful

Would a bigger battery help? Is that a reason people make there own trolly?
I'm no expert but I assume it's down to the small pump that are fitted to BP's, trolleys are usually fitted with the same size pump as a van mount is they are also usually fitted with a similar size battery as well,

I can't remember if you are a newbie or a trad guy converting a round, If you are a newbie go with a Gardiners BP on a trolley, if you are a trad guy converting your rounds don't bother with BP or a £600 wfp trolley go straight to van mount otherwise you will £600 on something that you will regret and end up spending far more in the long run

I'm trad thinking of converting. Don't want to convert van if I can help it as I use it for other things.

Thinking of getting BP to practice with at home and see if it's for me {£300} could always use for cony roofs later then decide how I go forward. Got a local wfp guy who will sell me as much water as I need for £3 per 100L

Fair enough, but you will chew your wick out lugging containers about getting halfway through a house running out of water walking back to the van having to fill up or swap containers and wasting loads of time in a day, I've been there and done it and still use my van for picking stuff up etc

I have bought the Gardiner back pack to practice with and for using for spraying cleaning fluids down the line. I got mine with female rectus fitting, set pole up with hoseless system. Trolley from Screwfix

This is what I want to see before I spend more money. I only have a berlingo but it's only 1 year old so don't want to swap unless I have too.

I have friends who do wfp from van and some from trolly. Think I need to find out for myself but appreciate where you are coming from ?

Thanks for info... I've got a trolly, getting clx22 as a trial pole but plan on having it for spare/chemical and replace with slx22, still haven't made mind up on fitting n brush. Someone sujusted a fitting that stopped water coming out of BP when disconnected.
