DIY Pole Holders

I've just made myself some pole holders for the van. I've seen a few videos etc on this but none with the exact process and bits you need so thought I'd share.

First thing I secured some Munsen ring backplates to the roof of the van;

They are secured with self drilling screws. Specifically self drilling and not self tapping. You want hex heads and not Phillips, this is because you're working on the roof of the van and your drill is likely to rip the thread of a Phillips. I used 16mm screws, you may be able to use longer but you'll want to be careful not to go through the bar and hit the actual roof;

Next, to hold the pole holder pipe I used Rubber lined pipe clips. They screw straight on to the Munsen ring back plates;

Finally the actual pipe. Just 1m of 110mm soil pipe;

Optional extras.... You can add a socket plug to the far end. I didn't add this, just left the back open, simply due to the size of my van and location of the pipes;

You could also add additional pole holders in between if required. Simply get a female Munsen back place and add a threaded rod to allow the pipe clips to be fitted lower than the initial fitting.

All 3 set me back less than £40. Much cheaper than any option available from the major window cleaning suppliers.

Thank you,this is just what I was looking for. My current setup is using gutter brackets (and they're holding better now that I've used self-drillers).

If they wiggle loose, I'll be following your guide. Very helpful, thanks. ?

My pleasure mate. I reckon if mine wiggle loose at some point I'll probably reposition them slightly and add a blob of epoxy glue to each hole, once the screw is through the resin will bond round it and give it stability. It did feel pretty strong to be fair though.

I've done the same, I added an extra rubber between the munsen ring and pipe. It give it a nice right fit ?

Oddly enough the ones in my old van are a little loose, these are nice and tight. Not sure if Screwfix have changed their supplier or something. To be fair the old ones are mounted on the tank as there is only one crossbar in the van.

One of my munsen ring brackets came out about a week ago. I popped a little gorilla glue on the end of the screws and secured it back up. Other than that this has worked well for me. Glad it was helpful @Mcsandlaly
