If I wanted to cancel my cleaning on a Saturday would that be ok with customers? Just contact them and ask if it's ok? Do most people call or text their customers? I worry that as I only do Saturdays I might affect my social life, but just dont have enough time during the week at the moment.

Not being funny, but what's more important...your social life, or building-up your customer base and earning money.

You still got Saturday Night and Sunday to socialise :Image9: .

Urrrmmmm wow.

I gave up on a social life nearly a year go. Hopefully I will be off the tools in a few years time. Then I will have all the social time I want.

If you want the odd Saturday off or pack it in altogether would be courteous to let them know.

Currently just working Saturdays and the odd weekday if a customer absolutely doesn't want it. Still feeling out window cleaning- it's a good earner- £12/hr. better than my TEFL teaching job (which has too much prep). Also learning carpentry, but window cleaning might bring in more money than that and it's hard to get into. Just trying to learn how to run a business etc Pricing. if I get too many customers too quickly and price wrongly could be screwed. I was told to aim for £20/hr, but I am earning £12/hr not including travel i guess it's speed not sure i am so tired from my other work and stuff I go slowly. Am traditional and only really do bungalows at moment. I am 6' 3 inches so find bungalows good as I can reach the tops of frames (just).

I can see why now buzzing you are looking for another source of income like window cleaning. If you don't mind me asking how much truth is in this article would you say?

The slavery of teaching English http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/3325192/The-slavery-of-teaching-English.html
haha, that was ridiculously negative. I don't agree with everything written there, I enjoy my job and as I am back in the UK it has given me a chance to meet lots of nice people and make friends with the other teachers. We play football- socially it has been great and young Brit lads go into it to meet foreign women. It also allows me to go off in the afternoons and do my carpentry course or window cleaning or whatever. But yes, it just isn't profitable enough to have a mortgage and kids and has no job stability (I could be let go at anytime) I get paid £14.3 /hr to teach, but that doesn't include the few hrs everyday I do prepping and filling out stupid forms (admin). It is a backup job if all else fails.

With window cleaning- there isn't the social aspect. But it is regular pay (even the trades can't offer that) and I have just started and excluding travel earn £12/hr ( I can earn more when I am quick). I think this isn't bad. I can't wait to get out of the school and get using my body to do something. At the moment I am trying to push all my customers to Saturdays so my free time during the week is on my carpentry. I think I can also take my time with understanding pricing etc if I don't get too many customers too quickly.

To be honest I can't believe more people haven't gone into it. It is regular and you can do it without any real training (like carpentry- which takes years to get good at). the money can be good. I am aiming for £20/hr. And I am traditional on mostly bungalows. That means potentially if you do 7hrs 5 days a week- that's £140 x 5 = £700 a week. Which is pretty good money. You could get a mortgage etc with that. Obviously, I am dreaming and only have about 14 customers, but you can dream!

I might just keep it as a side a job, at least for now. One more thing, I feel embarrassed about being a window cleaner and don't want to tell people I do it- well girls anyway (saying that, I do live with stuck up southerners in Bournemouth), but as this guy in Swindon who I did a course with said- people think we're a bit thick! So I hide my gear in my boot and extension pole in pipes in my backseat. What I might do is tell people I am a 'teacher', but flash them my money from window cleaning!

I'm new here so I don't no that much about the game. But I do know that one Saturday will lead to another and in the end you will prob lose what uv worked hard to build.ur only ever get what you put into anythink in this life.

I don't understand what you mean? U mean if i only work Saturdays I will annoy my customers and then lose them?

what happens if it rains on your Saturdays could quite easily happen

£700 is a big lump of money there wont be a lot of guys making £700 every week

What I'm saying is....if u only work on a Saturday and u start taking Saturdays of..and it starts leading to more saturdays of coz u want a life...I think ur round will be on a slippery slope. Don't get me wrong everyone should av a life other then work work work.but as that's ur only day to do the windows and its ur round and ur ya own boss then taking time of just coz ya fancy it isn't a good idea... What happens If ur rained of the next to sats? Rain n wind ya can't help. But a nice sunny day an u don't turn up don't look good in my book. But hay ho I'm new n just sayin lol

Don't be embarrassed about being a window cleaner. You're your own boss, running a business. Most people don't have the balls to make a break from being a wage slave for somebody else. I live on the south coast too and don't find people are snobbish towards me, you just have to take folk as they come and talk to them. I find that never refusing a brew and a chat helps too.

At the end of the day, earning a good living to support yourself (and family) is the main thing and you can earn really good money window cleaning!

I love this job i earn more then ppl with a degree n im only 22

Cant beat bein self employed

Some full time window cleaners, cleaning 5 days per week will earn less than £25k others can earn more than £45k on a 4 day week. Regardless of your method, it’s always going to be your own ability that gets you there.

The difference in mentality between an employee and a business owners thinking – is that the business owner must think more – if you don’t you earn £25k

Richard
