Concrete Pillars

I have a customer that has 2 big concrete pillars just outside her front door , she wants them cleaned does anyone know how I should go about cleaning them?

Will a karcher do it ? I've never power washed before do I have to use a chemical or anything?

Yes a karcher would probably do for a job like that, but it will take longer to do than a petrol power washer would. I don't use chemicals when I'm powerwashing as the pressure of the water removes any stains except for oil which requires chemicals

Might have to buy myself one it won't blast any concrete off or do any damage would it?

cheers scrim it top man, what sort of price does anyone think I should charge for this ? And do I use customers water?

You could do more damage than good using a pressure washer as I think you will find those pillars (portico) are not made from concrete.

Oh lol how the bloody hell do I clean them? /emoticons/unsure.png pressure washer no good then smurf?

You could land yourself in a whole lot of grief if you don’t know what you are doing. So your best bet is to contact a local masonry cleaning specialists and maybe sub the work out.

smurf what sort of damage could be done to them? They have to be strong if there pillars, as long as there not painted surely what could happen?

Not starting a argument I'm just curious to no, as there is lots of these outside houses i plan to drop leaflets to, so elaborate plz bud

The potential problems I can see on this are similar to how I deal with a busy side of my business. I you trained to clean headstones and I have cleaned many that now look like new ( I can post pic's if you want me to bore you )

Anyway I'm guessing what smurf means is staining on stone would be to some degree in the stone, most stone even concrete is slightly porous. Therefore just blasting it with water even high power like mine 250 bar honda washer wouldn't really help. A turbo nozzle still would not extract dirt.

I would clean it with chemicals by hand like I clean memorials......but if you dont know how or what chemicals i would pass on the job mate.

Sorry this does not help you complete the job, it's just my advice.

Right, in my garden my flower beds are lines with some concrete decorative fence....I karcher'd them and they looked a hell of a lot better than they did, I need to defo research this though, dot want to end up messing someone's pillars up hehe big bill

Yeah mate, the main problem you would have is the height of the pillar. Clean it with just a pressure washer and it will be very hard not to finish with it stripy because of cut marks. You'd have to clean it from bottom to top to avoid chemical streaks.

Hmm might pass it on then I've been really put off now lol I understand what you all say though, thanks for the advice peeps
