anyone tried oven cleaner on white frames to clean them up?

when i was chatting to this cleaner the other day he was saying hes always used oven cleaner and a scouring pad and it brings them up brilliant white but just wondered if anyone else had tried this sort of stuff, i know people have used the virosol tfr etc but not heard about oven cleaner and thought it would be too harsh myself being pretty lethal stuff!

Oven cleaner is very strong and is only meant for ovens I wouldn't try it myself on frames mate , I specialise in cleaning and window cleaning and I know for a fact oven chemicals are not for frames, stick to ubik or virosol they are the best you won't need to use anything else /emoticons/smile.png

i know pal, i thought exactly the same but this trad'er been doing it for 18 years and swears by the pound shop sprays, said spray it on scrub it in and wash them down but im not gonna risk it and just wondered if anyone else tried this stuff with it being so strong as ive not heard of it used before!!!

The thought did cross my mind but this was an old boy who seemed to really love his job and very friendly!

Did wonder if it was to set me up messing somones frames up lol

If no ones tried it on here I'll stay well away with it being lethal stuff and just get some tfr or something to try

Only way to find out is try some on your own white plastics and if works without doing any damage let us all know.

I'm guessing if he's buying a spray from pound shop its not Like oven pride it'll just be a degreaser and probably a pretty weak one at that so stay with the viro.

Haha I'm not trying it on my windows lol I've just replaced them all recently, had some nasty brown upvc and the cowboy who originally fitted them before we moved in felt they only needed one screw per side into the wall!!!

I'll try some on me mums white upvc its a few years old and greying so will be interesting?

Yes it's only the foaming oven pride stuff I think he spoke off but I've used that stuff and it doesn't half make you choke, maybe not industrial strength but could be better for window frames not being super harsh, I'll post back when I've melted her frames!!!!!
