I have been cleaning windows for over ten years and up until four years ago I was full time but due to becoming disillusioned with weather, collecting etc I took a full time job!

During the four years that I have been employed I have continued to clean windows at weekends, holidays etc and have always enjoyed it.

After reading this forum for the last few months I am considering going full time again as I am sure that I earn more "On the windows"!

Any opinions would be welcome!!!

Ta just wanted to get it off my chest!!!

well if you get the taste for it go for it, make ssure that you could afford to live on a tight budget for the first few weeks/months, its hard and slow while building a round up, but once you have a good round built up its worth it! yer the weather is a down side to the job, and this year has been a poor one, but it is worth it!

good luck with what ever you choose to do!

Thanks for advice RC!

I am not too concerned about building up round cos I have had a lot of my old custys approach me to begin cleaning as apparently the bloke that bought my round didnt last long and neither did any one that bought the round off him!

I am pretty sure that I can build up round again pretty quickly but just want to think of something to do in wet as I remember this really got on my nerves before!!!

thats a good start then, at least you know there are some good customers there then!

when i have days off coz of the weather, i use this time looking for more leads for work, gettin leaflets sorted, sort out new areas to go to etc etc

I always think this when its wet.

But think again, that if I had a massive round going working every day for 6 to 8 hours, then like other window cleaners should be able to afford a day off inexpectedly, am in the position where notmany custies so can change days but i still need more.

Yeah good ideas!

I was hoping to clean solar panels or a bit of painting etc.

I was also considering oven cleaning, carpet cleaning or valeting?

Not sure!

Same here Graham .

If you can afford to give up your 9 til 5 then go for it .

I started in different circumstances and to be honest im thinking i wish i had done this before !

obviously im not earning as much as i was before in a full time job but i feel better off for it spending time with family etc .

I love it .

do you have a pure water system to clean solar panels??

yer they are all good other things that you could do, or could even do a house cleaning service, im just bringing this in and my partner is doing the cleaning!

Nice one! Its positive posts like that recently that have made me wana return to "the windows".

I am sure I can earn more and I am sure taht I will not be working as many hours but.....

what system to make the pure water with. can't wash solar panels with anything else

back pack will work for them as you dont use much water, a good stiff and light pole about 42ft minimum and solar brush and thats all you really need

if you are not using a lot of water, then DI is the cheapest to set up, its quick, easy and low maintenance.

if you are going to use a lot of water, the RO is good but slow, more things to look after and keep an eye on, but good if you have room to store water storage tanks

how much do you make in your current job and how much would you make on the windows?

do window cleaners allow for days off due to weather and time for collecting or how does it work?

First of all its a nice job having cleaned windows for a living once, but the benefits that you get in doing the job are nice and its quite fulfilling in some ways too...

You know what to expect, so go for it.

I am new to this (10 months) and do 2-3 days a wk. I think it must be tough going if you need to do it 5 days a week with the weather and physical nature of the job.

Even now I have issues with pain in the joints of my hands with all the squgee work!

Good luck.
