I've been asked to clean the grease from this curry house vent but i don't do this sort of job , would you need to use a jet wash for something like this to get the grease out as the manager said it's full of grease ! Rank!

No dought they have been told by a health inspector to get the extraction system cleared of grease aswell as not only is it a health hazzard but also is a fire hazzard too.

Best you try and find a specialist company in your areas or if no joy then try a nationl firm that does that kind of work. Reason being you need specialist kit to clean those sorts of extraction systems that cost a fortune to buy and you have to know what you are doing too.

Wise man @cheapncheerful to do a runner indeed /emoticons/biggrin.png

Spoke to my mate who has a cleaning shop near me, he knows a guy that does this sort of thing, got a quote from him to do it £1500 with scaffolding! I think that's very cheap , and that's with a drink on top for me too /emoticons/smile.png it hasn't been cleaned for 7years !!! The bloke that's doing it said to me that the curry shops insurance would now be void if it went up in flames and he said it's only a matter of time before it does! Plus they are suppose to be serviced once a year!

They don't really have an option as they are currently in breach of several laws not having their kichen extraction system maintained. /emoticons/biggrin.png

The curry exhaust vent should be first scraped clean and then washed clean with food safe caustic chemicals and hot water pressure-washing where possible to safely collect dirty water by-product.

Caustic chemicals can be applied to break down the grease. After that, hot water can be used to rinse away the residue. Chemicals are generally applied with either a garden type sprayer, downstream injection through pressure washer or with a chemical foamer.

Once the chemicals are applied, they are allowed to dwell on the surface of the grease for a period of time, before being washed off of the surface with hot water. In extreme situations, where grease buildup is too heavy for a chemical application and a rinse, scrapers may be used to remove excess buildup from the contaminated surfaces, before chemicals are applied.

Machines can be used that both boil water and then apply this water under pressures up to 2000PSI. In a common method of preparation, heavy-duty tarps are first clipped to the hoods and then angled into plastic garbage cans to catch the run-off. As the cans are filled the contents are disposed of successively. The grease should be removed rather than just emptied into the local drains to avoid clogging issues.
