Corrosion on battery terminals

I bought some new terminals six months ago and all has been good off my leisure battery then on Friday the power seemed to drop off on the hose. The water went to a trickle. I noted corrosion on the negative terminal, cleaned it off and hopefully sorted it. Anyone know what causes it and can I prevent it. My battery charger had some build up on the negative clip too.

Clean it off with some wire wool light smear of grease and that should stop it , grease will also help the battery conduct power to the wires better

Vaselline is very good to prevent corrosion too.

Don't forget to smear a bit of grease on the clamps too, and keep the top of battery clean and dry, or the battery will discharge itself across the damp muck between the terminals.
