Hi all, been browsing for some time now, and thought it's only polite to say hello and what a great forum this is! So here is my story: please keep awake.
I'm Currently a Black Cab Driver (suburbs/NOT all London) and outgoings are so high, to compete with Mini Cabs/ to many drivers not enough work 12/14 hours a day just to make ends mea, and failing! Blah blah blah... looking at this forum I see that a lot of "windies" are going down the wfp route. As I haven't got a great deal of money to start up I feel trad is best for me (for now anyway) - or would u suggest I invest in backpack trolley to start with?
..I Haven't got no experience of window cleaning but willing to learn, ( my windows at home have never been washed so much) and I know it can be very rewarding at times and hard also hard at times. I don't want to give my cab up just yet as I have a family to feed etc. But looking to get out there and knock on doors asap. Ive got the chat that doesn't bother me.. Just need a bit of advise on where to go with it all, I've bought myself a squeegee/ mop /bucket etc, and watching endless videos of wc techniques (while sitting in the rank for endless hours).. Should I invest in an extendable pole (for squeege and mop) if so how many foot.
One of my friends is designing me a flyer to then get printed and go out door knocking. I know fB and twitter look like a good way of getting customers but door knocking is key!! I don't have a van as of yet, interested in getting one in the near future. I've just got a few questions I'd like to ask?
1) ladders - what ladders would you recommend (haven't got a van yet so light as possible)
2) when would I need to let hm know that I have started/starting another business.? (Not taken a penny as of yet anyway)
3) with FB, how can I get customers? What's the best way to get customers round local areas.
4) when canvassing for work? would u be honest and say that you have recently started a window cleaning round, or would u say you have been doing wc for a while? Blah blah..
5) my mate prints t shirts so thought it would be a good idea to get logo printed on them while doing canvassing? - or does this look to "newbie"
Sorry for boring you all, have a lovely evening. And a profitable week...il be posting to let you know my progress
Ryan
