Plastic thread on hose spindle

The plastic thread on my hose spindle has worn causing the connection to leak slightly. I’ve ordered a new spindle but having issues with the connector size to the hose. Is it possible to rethread the plastic as a temporary measure ?

Would think some plumbers tape as a temporary measure then replace

On the Claber reel I have the spindle is plastic but it's not supposed to seal using the thread. Mine uses a 3/4" bsp hozeloc fitting same as an outside tap. The Hozeloc has a rubber washer that is squished between it and the end of the spindle.

Just for future ref Plumbers Gas tape is thicker and stronger than standard ptfe so doesn't need as many turns and seems to seal threads much better than 'standard' ptfe.

Fingers crossed the new spindle arrives soon.
