Hi All,

Just a quick question. If you where going to have only 1 SLX pole for a start up, what would you choose ?

I was thinking of Slx 22 with a couple of extensions or Slx 25 with 1 extension ?

or would you just say sod it and go Slx 27 and no extensions ?

Adding extensions can be a bit of a pain IMHO.

We do 99% of our work with an SLX22 and my son an SLX25.

My SLX22 is now 8 years old so I'm in 2 minds if I replace it with the same or a slightly heavier SLX27. Weight is an important consideration for me but it might not be for you.

I'm at an advantage as I also have an old SLX40 to cover me for those odd jobs where I need a longer pole. It get used 3 of 4 times a month and in all due honesty I can drop all those jobs where its needed.

I started with a slx 27 as my only pole, this reached all my work until I had a hotel to clean so I got an extension for that then bought a slx 18 a while later as your joints will suffer using too big a pole day in day out.

I used an SLX 27 for all my work for the first 18 months of WFP and thought I can do my round with a smaller pole and bought an SLX18 and it was a great decision as I can do 95% of my work with it, and when I have to use my 27, boy does it feel heavy.

Buy a 35 and take the top 3/4 sections out and use them. You’ll be able to reach almost everything on domestic properties with the 35 including a lot of velux windows.

As a start up pole I'd get the 27, this will allow you to get all windows, up to 3 floors. If there are a lot of older buildings this won't reach the windows set back in the roof though.  As you're a newbie I'm assuming you'll not be working with it 40 hours a week so the weight shouldn't be too much of a problem. When you're busier you should be able to afford a smaller lighter pole for most of your work and have the 27 as a back up.

Those sections are not insulated and as seen in another recent thread, conduct electricity very well and then explode. If you're touching it then bye bye.

Alex will say you should only use them with the base section and has had them all tested to 5kv I think he said.

I used lad's SLX25 for a job I did on my own on Thursday. It was a big job (by my standards) and took me 2 hours. I really felt that.little extra weight. As each section is slightly longer than my SLX22 although the same diamt I really noticed the difference. Now it shouldn't have made any difference because the pole is extended to the same length to clean the windows, whether its the SLX22 or SLX25. (I used his because he has a stiff brush on his pole and boy, did that job need it this time.)

Whether this was just an illusion or not I don't know. Lad usually does the back which is a little more difficult than the front which I usually do. It could also be that the job takes the 2 of us just under an hour, so the extra continous work could be what made me feel more tired and nothing to do with the pole.

I don't recommend this getting old to anyone.  ?

I've just brought a Extreme pole which is a 22ft so I'm very glad to see plenty of people rate a 22 for virtually everything. I too would opt for a 22ft slx mate ?

You sound like me, but I am 25 years your junior ? my Xtreme -22 is a great daily pole but it's like holding a tree trunk with 2 extensions on, it's surprising the difference one or two sections added or removed can make.

A little while back I was going to replace my SLX22 with an SLX27, but now I think there is less change of that.

I do like the idea of an Xtreme pole but I am rather heavy handed so won't trust myself to not break it. My SLX22 is maintained regularly which I put down to its longevity rather than any careful use. I regularly 'hammer' top openers down that are a little stiff and often push windows closed that are open in the summer.

My SLX22 does experience a fair amount of abuse from my part.

I know what you mean, i didnt think i was that old, yet Im starting to get what I guess is a hernia type pain in my left lower side, and painful lower back pain. I really feel it worse when its the pole at full stretch doing windows at odd angles, over connys etc.

I'm doing that with a clx27! I don't mind 2nd floor windows but I have one above an extension that is a proper pain to access.

Need to downgrade that pole to a 18 or 22 or whatever and use it for 1st floor only and get myself a slx but it's money I don't have ☹️

I’d get the 27 to start with. Then once you have a little bit of spare money and busier, get an 18 for easy straight forward jobs.

I use the super max 27 for jobs with far skylights & dorma’s. But I also have a extreme 18 which I use for your average straight forward house.

Slx 27 is a good pole. I was using a slx 35 all last week fine. Apart from hitting decking fencing here and there when doing patio doors it wasnt heavy as such

I hear you but that's over kill for most domestic with velux,  27 is long enough. Suppose it depends where you are house style

i  dont understand you guys using 22 footers all day long.....i need a 25 footer for lots of work every day,the awkward windows over kitchen extensions, large connys,3 storey windows, velux windows...the list is endless....

id go for the 25 footer if i were you...anything shorter and you ll struggle on some jobs and will have to add an extension or go back to the van for a longer pole...this all adds time to a job that you dont want really....

I use the Xtreme 25 with the 35 extension all day, every day. A couple of times a month I have to add the 45 extension.

I think that, if I used the Xtreme as a 25, I wouldn't be able to access a lot of windows on my round, but would certainly make the pole lighter!

i use an xtreme 25 for most work and swap to an xtreme 47 for anything higher.....its amazing what windows i can reach with a 25 footer(i am 6ft 2in with long arms though!)....i think its better having 2 separate poles than messing about adding extensions...ok its more expensive initially but it pays off in the long run in reduced time on the job....
