140ah battery

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Does anybody run a 140ah battery in there system, if so how does it fair?
I use a pair of 120s. Didn't know there was a 140. I'd expect it would be fine providing it's of the correct type for the job intended. Ie : slow release for wfp pumps only, combination for pumps and electric reels, van starter only (unlikely).

It would be a heavy beast for sure. I wouldn't want to be lifting it out for charging as I believe some do. ?

140aH are becoming greatly used within the overland camper  /  Vanlife world.  Mainly lithium polymer and other compositions.

The only issue with them that I'm aware of is temperature sensitivity and the need for battery heater pads / enclosures to keep them at an optimum temperature may be worth scrolling through the youtube videos

If you use a split charge relay, how are you going to recharge both batteries simultaneously? If you are going to separate them then using 2 Durite type of split charge relays will join them together as the Durite (and other 140amp copies) are all bi-directional.

I'd personally recommend a 30 amp Victorn energy non isolated B2B higher charge current. Bluetooth management app and better charge characteristics

I have one in my van charging my auxiliary equipment battery great investment and works well with standard and smart alternators

I have a sterling B2B charger installed in the van, but for the amount of miles i do a day it doesnt really do alot of good.

I do less than 10 miles a day apart from 3 days every 6 weeks

You are going to have to link the batteries together using that, or add a second b2b charger. If you link both together they need to be of the same make and capacity.

Unfortunately my bb1260 has developed a fault. I have sent an email off to Charles Sterling a week ago but haven't had a response as yet. As I addressed it personally to him, there could always be the possibility he is out of the office for some reason.

I have used the opportunity to put my old Durite scr 140 amp copy back into service. Interestingly, I believe there is a slightly better charging performance with the Sterling unit, but it's not that dramatic.

I also get the feeling that the Sterling unit was 'pinching' charge from my starter battery to replenish some of what I was using during the day. My starter battery was always showing a half charge state when at rest where it's now fully charged.

My first choice would be a Numax. My current battery is a 105 amp as that is the biggest battery that will fit inside my battery tray. If I wanted to go 'bigger', then I would have to get the welder out.  My current battery isn't a Numax but is made by the same battery manufacturer and is the identical spec. My previous battery packed up over a year ago when there was limited choice due to covid and supply chain issues. It is a dual-purpose leisure battery with a CCA rating. It was exactly what I wanted, as it has to work harder with having a diesel heater as well as a twin operator system.

Have a look at Euro Car parts. OK so they might not do Numax batteries but you can walk into the shop and I would guess warranty issues might be OK (obviously you might forget to mention you are using it for window cleaning ? ).

Try Alpha Batteries. Bought a leisure battery 2 years ago.  3 year warranty on most of them. I'm on my second replacement drop them an email with invoice number next day battery on door step.

Have I got this right? You bought a battery 2 years ago and and had two replacements. Three batteries in two years? And you're recommending that as a sound business investment?
I'm out! ?

I almost never see my leisure batteries because I buy the biggest and the best quality I can sensibly purchase! I fit them and pretty much forget them. I can easily monitor the condition using the bat setting on the controller. They are reading the same now as they did several years ago. Anywhere between 12.2 and 12.6v with the average around 12.4~12.5v. That'll do for me.
