3/4 inch swivel hose connector

Just replaced the spindle on my hose reel. Attached the 3/4 inch swivel hose connector and there is a very minor leak. How tight does the metal connector have to be on the plastic thread of the spindle. Don’t want to damage the plastic thread on the new spindle.

We used to use PTFE tape

I’ve used PTFE tape before which has helped ?. My main question was how tight the connection needs to be. Would it be hand tight or tightened with mole grips or something similar ?

We tightened it using PTFE and kept tightening till it stopped dripping

There should be a rubber washer in there that compresses against the spindle. The rubber should create the seal, quite often there is no need for ptfe if it's sealing with the washer. I used to do it up hand tight then nip it up with pipe grips.
