A tubeless pole idea...

Has anyone thought about just having a JG fitting on the pole hose,

Then just connecting it to each pole you use?

Just thinking about giving it a go, having maybe 6-8 inches pole hose hanging out the back of the poles, then using the push fit fittings to connect it to a long piece of pole hose connected to your main mocrobire/minibore?

Just a thought, not sure if it would be any good, but it's basically exactly the same as these 'tubeless' designs, just without the rectus fittings...

So it would be lighter and thinner...

Already done and tried it.

I use a hybrid now of John guest fittings and pole hose. Proper faff to convert it all down. Was a waste of time and effort.

The only thing is like you say. It will catch on base cap BUT rarely leaks etc.

Bog that then, can't think of anything worse than it catching!

I'll have to sort something else out...

The problem is getting rid of the pole hose for when there stored on the roof...

take the top section of your pole completely off.drill a 9-10mm hole in a cork(steve sells the end plugs pre drilled)push the cork into the end were hose comes out.pull the hose through & fit a rectus 21 fitting & secure with an o clip.put the pole back together.raise the 1st section 2-3inches so the rectus 21 fitting is inside the base of the pole.wind some insulation tape around the top section by the clamp to stop it dropping back.buy a ejector sleeve from steve for £10.ive done this with all my poles & it works.

I could see it working in theory @Jake but would catch on the pole base cap, a way round that would be to modify your pole base caps in a way that would allow a push fit connector to slide freely up the pole as you extend sections. Then just detach leaving the few inches hanging out so it can go on the roof to the next job.

the trouble with using john guest fittings you will still get water everywere when detatched.not so with a rectus fitting.

I work with no pole hose sticking out of the pole when collapsed. I put a thread on here how I did it. Think its in the DIY section somewhere. I use the normal rectus fitting and pull it up the pole when extending.

fantastic idear!!! but surely the rectus 21 fitting- will still catch on the pole base if you use it say on a van mount & need to connect & disconnect all the time?

I have no problems with it. been using it like this for over a year now. I leave the pole connected all day. And the first extension slightly extended all the time to keep the fitting inside the pole all the time, until i'm ready to disconnect/go home /emoticons/smile.png

Thats a really smart idea, will look into doing this on my poles, I hate having all the pole hose hanging on a bracket on my pole holder dripping everywhere in the van, I can see this working out well so long as the fitting slides up the pole butt ok, good for @Jake to for carrying pole on outside of the van to and from jobs

I also make these so I can put the pole on its end without ever trpping or wearing out the hose sticking out the bottom

That's basically what I was thinking of doing with the John guest fitting Jimmy,

Just keeping it in the pole by not collapsing the pole completly...

The pic I posted at the top of the thread will easily go up through the poles, so if I leave 6 inches hanging out, then just don't collapse the pole completly, it will stay in...

It works for me @Jake . The trick is to keep the first extension on the pole extended just enough to keep the join in the pole. I use a SLX 22 which collapses quite small so even when extended 8 or 9 inches is still quite small.

Plus its great having no join or loop.
