air vent lid vs solid lid on water tank

Hi had air vent lid on me 500l tank but sick of water splashing everywhere and going on my van floor so av put a solid lid which is much better just wondering why you must av air vent lid and not solid water seems to flow ok with solid any ideas cheers

Because it can cause a vacuum in the tank making the sides crease inwards if they are plastic

oh right cheers for that mate i wondered why it was what i will do then is put solid lid while driving and swap to other when working

If you remove water from a tank without replacing it you will cause a vacuum which will cause the walls to be sucked in and damaged. You need a vented cap, some on here block the vents initially then uncover when water level drops.

Just fit a short piece of pole hose into the air vent hole, that'll stop it leaking. You might have to drill the hole slightly bigger to fit.

Just unscrew the sealed lid a 1/4 turn job done no water out but still lets air in.

I cover my lid with a plaggy bag. I drilled a hole in the top of the tank and slotted a length of pole hose in it and sealed at the join.

Where did you get your lid from without the vents. I agree swap the lids over, I get sick of the water splashing out.

then went back few weeks later to say about the vent lid and they gave me solid lid aswell as vented cause me tank was new got it for nothing but might be worth asking if they sell em mate
