I appreciate a lot of people dont use them/hate them, but for anyone who does know, Im trying to charge mine and having issues. At the moment the light on the charger is going from red to green every few seconds, is this right? previously it was just staying green as if fully charged, which it certainly wasnt. I opened it up and a red wire was loose so I soldered it back onto the red live terminal, thought that would be it. I use it a lot for odd jobs so need it for tomorrow really. Just wondered as im sure it used to stay red for hours and warm up until it was done. Anyone else had this where it goes red to green every 5 seconds? I

Little update, just timed it and its staying red for 3 seconds and then goes green for 4 seconds, wonder if it can charge like that, I'll probly end up killing it tomorrow knowing my luck

Weird, I noticed mine doing the same thing the other day. I haven't investigated yet but it did me fine on a conny roof job spraying chemicals. Not sure it would last all day.

@ks789 I use a backpack (I have a Gardiner and a big boy so just use them in rotation a bit), and sometimes mine does this but not all the time. I'm sure I read somewhere it means that the battery is starting to wear out. How long have you had it mate? If it's a Gardiner then send them an email as they are usually very helpful.

Yeh Ive had it years, about 7 years but not regular use, just the odd job but still it probably has had its day. Ive just ordered another one. I think I didnt always keep it up to its recommended 75% charge so the battery prob was on its way. Its still going but I cant get it to charge up so, reckon I'll finish it off tomorrow. Only the green light on the charger, not the red, well, only for a minute or so now, when first plug it in. Its done well, if the new one lasts that long i'll be chuffed.

Yeh its just staying green now, only red when first plug in. Has lasted well so, just ordered another. Come in very handy at times and some jobs it just makes sense. ( going through a house or round the back of some jungle covered passageway

Let us know if the new battery stops the flashing red and green lights.

Saying that maybe a good idea get another battery sometime and have two backpacks
I have 2 backpacks as I started from my car so was relying on a backpack. I generally use 1 for chemicals (tfr, ubik, CC50, hypo etc) and the other for pure on the odd occasion it's needed.
I seem to remember that Toolstation do a 12v 12Ah lead acid battery that's the correct dimensions but I would have to check. I think Gardiners one is only a couple of £ more delivered but my local Toolstation keeps them in stock.

Always good to have spares of kit we rely on.

Hope it's been working ok for you on your jobs mate. Good idea to get a new one as 7 years is great service for it, but if everything else is ok and it turns out to be the battery I'd replace the battery and then use the old backpack as a spare and for gutters and fascias etc.

Usually if the charger is flashing green/red/green then there is a poor or dirty connection somewhere.
If there are no wiring breaks (or the break is fixed) then it could be corrosion on the charging socket pins.
This is good to know. Apologies, I'm sure I read somewhere it was likely to be the battery starting to wear out. There are lots of spares available for the backpack, so you can probably get it up and running without it costing a fortune.

yes was strange as today after work it stayed red for longer when charging, maybe half hour or an hour, so its temperamental. It felt warm so I knew it was charging. Then went green again, but I cant imagine it being fully charged so soon, though I hadnt used it for much, just one semi. Though it had heavier use past few days.I will clean up the charger terminals but being 7 years old I reckon I done the right thing ordering a new one from yourselves, especially with possible inflation creeping up etc.
