Best size and place for hose

I use JG fittings throughout my van. Just before the hose reel I use a 1/2'' barb connection to switch to normal hose. I am using a relatively thin 1/2'' hose for this bit but it seems a little loose. Anyone got any recommendations for what I can replace this with? I am thinking I probably need to go to 10mm hose to get a better fit.

All the plumbers I know use the white speedfit connections and I've never heard of any problems.

I use 1/2'' JG speed fit from the tank to the pump, then from the pump to just before the hose reel. I have one of these shut off valves with a 1/2'' barb on the other end. I've gone for Pro26 on the reel itself and that has a 1/2'' barb on it too. The hose just feels a little flimsy. I had to really go to town on the jubilee clip to get it not to leak so I figure I either need a thicker hose or a hose with a smaller diameter.

The JG fittings have been good, its the standard hose i'm struggling with. I thought someone would be able to point me in the direction of the hose they use.
