Hi guys I'm new to all this.

I want to buy a  diy wfp van mount system. Been emailing company's on prices and they have all come back at figures of £5000 plus . I have a limit of £2500  for a 500ltr 2 man system that I want ro/ di . Do I have enough to get that kind of system on diy build.

Thanks .

Be gentle pls lol

Search on here as there are some good ones

Jimmyboots has a good thread with pics

Just to give you an idea of how cheap it can be done my first diy system consisted of

baffled tank off eBay £50

hose reel &100m of hose £120

cheap marine pump £15

controller £40

450gpd ro £160

di vessel off eBay £40

clips and bits n bobs £50

storage tank for pure £20

sub pump £30

sub hose £20

battery and charger £120

That was for a 1 man set up and the tank wasn’t caged which I’d recommend.

Wish I had more money to spend when I started ?

Hi darren.

A DIY van build will cost way less matey

500ltr water container is £270

2 100psi surflo pumps is £180

2 controllers £100

2 100meter reels £300

hose and fittings £50

battery+split relay £140

frame for the 500 tank £250

2 di resin vessels £200

450gpd reverse osmosis leave it on over night for work the next day £240

total cost...£1730 but the pricing i gave is very high you could prob shave off a load if sourced elsewhere..

I have a 450gpd with booster pump and it gives me around 60 ltr per hour into a 1000ltr ibc.

I use 600ltr per day max, mostly aroun4-500ltrs per day doing around 30 houses.

A mate and me Build my vanmount ,its great because if a failure occures, and it Will , Then its far easier fixing it yourself cos you know exactly what to do on site.

Always carry spares of common bits onboard and tools. Mine was Very basic at first and cheap. On the way ive upgraded as i earnt more money. Thats my other point. Its easier to upgrade DIY systems as you want it.

Hey mate,

yeh I was on a tighter budget then that when i started out, but got a 500L wydale tank & steel frame bolted in, grippatank hose, Gardiner pump controller & 2 poles etc + bits. Then waterproof paint. Think it came to about a £1,000 max maybe slightly less. Was all brand new.

Then I got a 600gpd streamline R.O for my storage tank, it was £300+vat and it’s been absolutely brilliant! On decent water psi (40+) in mild temperature it’ll purify 500/600L of pure in 8/10hrs no problem. And the pre filters are only £12 something to replace every 3-4months.

But my advice to you, if you’re looking for a 2 man system, maybe consider a 650L tank, instead of 500l, i used to work for a company and we would often use 550L+ on a normal day, never mind a long summers day with big jobs near each other. That extra 150L will really help. Shop around see what you think.
