Some good input here as said its a personal thing about what works best for each person what vehicle you drive or the choices any of us make in terms of vehicle financing or purchase doesn't define whether we are succeeding in business or not ./emoticons/wink.png

Had my Berlingo on contract for the past 2 years, it goes back in 2 weeks time, no option to buy.

Has to go back in showroom used condition. Fair wear and tear is subjective and every mark, scratch, blemish, pin-prick dent is a cost to the finance company. I am regretting getting this van on contract. Apparantly the company that is coming out to inspect it which is called Manheim is ruthless on inspections. spending a lot of money getting it perfect to avoid any problems. Have read about one guy who had a scratch 2.8 cm long and was charged £450 for a respray of panel, he was threatened with court action if he did't pay and it had to be done via main dealer.

Now looking forward to picking up my new Nemo one man set up from WCW.

If you are concerned, my advise is to go into one of the main dealership and ask them the detail of the local chip and dent man they use. Then get him to repair any blemishes and get it valleted before Manheim inspect it.

Manheim are the auctioneers and so have an agenda. The better the van looks the better the auction price. And they need to have you pay for them to come out and inspect the vehicle.

I doubt the inspection fee will be paid by the leasing company.

I had a car on HP that I returned early this year. Manheim came out to check it before handing it back and I was c**pping myself as I'd used it for WFP so damp on back seats, knocking noise coming from suspension, battery wasn't charging as it needed a new belt and a neighbour had decided to scratch it repeatedly.

Manheim guy warned me that they cost up to return it to showroom state but that's unrealistic and as long as car wasn't abused the HP company wouldn't quibble.

So I get a bill for £2,000 plus penalties for not paying the latest installments after writing to advise early termination of HP.

Told to sign off with Manheim that inspection completed, damage was correct but I didn't agree with the valuation.

Took another month for the HP company to get back to me but they agreed the damage was superficial and cancelled the entire bill!! /emoticons/biggrin.png

Happy days!

I'm currently looking to buy a cheap Renault Kangoo van to start my new biz with, and came across this GREAT article on what to look out for on these motors problem wise, useful when dealing with any Arthur Daley types!
