Absolutely ridiculous at the moment! Will they hopefully come down a bit next year or is it looking unlikely? Costing me £100 to fill up.

It was not mentioned in the Autumn budget but it was detailed in it, that diesel is going up 23 percent next March.

I dont know why anyone is buying poor quality fuel at supermarkets anymore..... They should not be charging the same as BP/Shell...

All UK fuel must meet EU standards - this includes additives for all sorts.
Not sure if you remember 'Formula Shell' back in the 90's? Shell realised that the gov taxed unleaded at less than leaded. They could sell a lead free petrol at the same or higher price and pocket the difference. Shell formulated an unleaded with 'a lead substitute' it still passed the then BS4040 spec! Unfortunately this resulted in burnt valves on some Rover and Vauxhall engines!

Don't just assume that supermarket fuel is any worse than the major brands. I would put money on the supermarkets buying fuel from whoever will sell it to them cheapest irrespective of who actually manufactures it.

Best thing to do is vary where you get fuel from and not run low. That way you protect the engine and fuel system as best you can.

Im just gonna stick with Jet by me for now who are owned by Conocophillips ...

Im not an fuel specialist but when I worked in the oil/gas industry with specialists before window cleaning I was told there was a major difference between the major brands product and what supermarkets sell.

Years ago I had injector problems in my Vito , the garage who sorted it said you have been running it on supermarket fuel , I said yes how do you know he said the injectors were all gummed up as there was no additives in there fuels he said he saw it all the time , I used to fill up at Asda , since then I only use supermarkets fuel on odd occasions and have never had a problem since .

I used to test fuels and lubricants for the MoD. Basically we wrote the spec and put it out to tender. The oil companies would blend the fuel and lubricants to pass the tests. To put it simply, the additives are the expensive bit, so they blend it to just pass the test within the test spec. They are masters of blending and putting too much additives in effects their profits.
Most fuel companies have premium fuels with higher octane and cetane plus some extra additives but they charge more.
