Employing someone

WCF

Help Support WCF:

Do it mate. If you have an accountant you’ll need to pay for payroll and provide a pension. The wages will obviously come off your profits. I believe the tax vat threshold has now gone to £90,000 so if you think you can stay under that then perfect. Employers liability is nowhere near the £100 a month someone has said. I have employers and public for £34
Biggest hurdle will be finding someone you trust to do the job.

As far as I am aware it's only logo'd work wear and proper PPE that are allowable as business expense. PPE is personal Protective Equipment - safety shoes, goggles, gloves etc not just normal items of clothing that anyone else might buy to wear casually.
'Putting stuff through' as a certain category doesn't make it correct. In the unlikely event you are audited then you might find a fair bit of stuff you put through might not be allowable. Then again I believe the penalty is just the tax not aid and a small fine unless they prove systematic avoidance.
That said I bet there are lots of allowable expenses you could put through that you don't, like use of a space in your home for admin etc.
I don't think protection from the rain counts as PPE :ROFLMAO:
When people say "by the book" they have to remember the book has been added to so much it's barely worth the paper it's printed on. What's to say Dazmond didn't get those Gortex jackets embroidered... If the shoes are safety shoes and he has a risk assessment requiring them all of a sudden they became a permissible expense. So many caveats it's barely worth thinking about. So many points and arguments and loopholes it all comes down to how switched on people are.

Your wrong.....waterproofs are PPE if you regularly work outside in wet weather all year round(look it up). You obviously don't live in the North west!😆

Nitrile gloves are also PPE (protecting hands from carbon dust)

I've just bought 2 x bergaus goretex jackets at £165 each and put them both through as PPE as they just get used for work. It's perfectly legal and above board. Same with my goretex boots and waterproof trousers. You can get hypothermia if your soaking wet in cold weather.

Fair enough, lots of rules and interpretation. Still can't actually find HMRC definition of PPE - there must be one somewhere - lots about uniform and clothing without logos but as you say PPE probably comes under different category.

As for me not living in the north west - I am further north and west of you :ROFLMAO: - very close to Blackpool!

If you need it for work it’s a work expense then put it through simple.
You need a waterproof jacket and boots if you work out doors in the winter just like you need sunglasses and sunscreen for work in the summer.

If a multi millionaire mp can claim for a second London home and all it’s expenses and running cost even down to the window cleaning bill although they live 30 minutes outside London then I’m sure Daz will be fine running a few gore tex jackets through the books.

Always get advice from a good accountant but remember his job is to help you pay the least amount of tax possible legally.Working best for your interests not HMRC’s
