First tender bid going in tomorrow

As post states, I'm sticking in my very first tender bid in for a brand new doctors surgery tomorrow, as I understand someone else has put a bid in so fingers crossed I'll get it, in the letter I explained that I do it traditional and ensure that all water is removed from sills, will wipe frames down each quarter at no additional cost and they also have around 8 solar panels (low level roof) and I said I would clean them down free each quarter too, also added that I would be available to clean the insides as and when they require it but at an additional cost.

Will let you know how I get on

Cheers mate, I've been keeping an eye on the build as I stay not to far away from it, and do an new build estate not to far from it. Drove past today and noticed it was finished off and went in to speak to the manager. Will upload my tender letter tomorrow and see what you guys think. The job in total will only take 30 minutes for the outsides to do

Well dropped in today to see the manager (hadn't seen her at all yet) to put my face to the email bid, got talking about the bid and she mentioned that she would need to get a bid for the gutters done, low and behold I say my gear is outside after doing a gutter job, and if she would stick in a good word with the partners then I'll do them for FREE. Should have seen the look on her face, its as though she had never heard the word before, anyways out I go brand new building gutters already choked up with leaves, took me 20 minutes and hopefully the contract won just from that gesture.

On a serious note, you may have done yourself over there. Gutter cleaning is easy to get premium pay for. It needs a ladder to access, its dirty, and its dangerous. You completed it in 20mins, and you did it for free.... how much do you think you are going to be able to quote that job for next time? Anything over 20 quid and they'll probably send you packing.

Only did under half the building mate, the side thats sitting under the trees, tokdbher at the time I only had 20 minutes to spare as I was picking my son up at nursery. Maybe shouldhave given the ffull story at the first post. All. In all she mentioned the gutters and said they were overflowing on one side , thats when the idea popped into my head, told her I would clear the overflowing side for her as that's what I would have time for.

Doing stuff for free before you even got the job just shows youre desparate and thats never good, makes them think you jump when they say so.

My first rule is never do something for free, maybe a door on the inside if i pass by and the custy ask, but certanly not at gutter clean.

Fair enough mate, good luck with it. But I've got to agree with Jacob though. I used to do stuff like that when I first started out. Good intentions, well meaning and all that. But as time goes on you learn a bit about customer psycology (I cant even spell it), and just like Jacob says, you're on the back foot a bit now.

Think that's all well and good for well established businesses but I'm only going for 3 months. I'm not desperate in any shape as I have a full time job too but extra customers are always handy to have on the books ,and commercial stuff will be good for the portfolio.

The practice manager isn't the one holding the purse strings as the place is run by Partners (doctors) but she's the one who will be able to stick the good word in.

I appreciate the advice and history from what you guys have experienced but that doesn't mean everyone is the same, this may prove the case if they do try and take the piss, but I won't be taken for a ride.

Well got the email today and I've won the contract, going in on Wednesday for a chat regarding how I want paid, confidentiality, timescale of cleans etc... They also want the insides done too, which I had already quoted for so extra for me for the single job.

Have to say I'm over the moon with this, may not seem like much but to someone just starting out its a great achievement in my book.

Had the meeting today, and the practice manager couldn't have been nicer, she mentioned the gutters being cleared out each year and said that she will leave that to me even though I hadn't gave them a quote for it they were happy with me to clear them when needed and to just bill them. I also asked if my quote was close to the other bid and she said I was actually slightly higher but the detail of the service I would provide within the bid proposal, the professional look and the formal way I approached them won me the job.
