Flushing a 4040 RO

WCF

Help Support WCF:

I think almost everyone flushes their RO if they want it to last that is. Normally you flush every time you start making pure. i.e. open up the waste tap to allow full flow for say 5 -10 mins. Some systems come with auto flush/fill systems so you can't forget.

Flushing helps to clear out the TDS that the RO has take out to make pure. If you don't flush then the TDS builds up and clogs the RO!!

I've never flushed my RO in 12 months, Tds is about 40-50. Never been told to flush it by the boss and never noticed any issue in the tank, tds is 2 or 3 before DI

What does flushing actually do?

Flushing it removes a lot of the dirt that’s accumulated on the membrane surface , your TDS is low but it would still benefit from flushing regularly

I'm guessing I literally turn the red tap of the side of the RO?

No idear what yours is like but there should be a tap or valve to open fully this will result in all the water flushing the membrane and going to waist , once it has been flushed for a while you just then partially shut the waist valve to give you pure and waist in the appropriate amounts 60/40 50/50 or what ever .

You open the gate valve which is what I think you're describing. You will see all of the water start to flow to the waste. There will be the tiniest drop of water through the pure and the pressure gauge will go to 0.
Would probably have helped if I got told that when I got the van 12 months ago haha

The water meter will love that ?

I asked for one of these. The inspector bloke came and had a look and said the soakaways aren't fit for purpose so I couldn't have the rebate!
I thought the rebate was for the pure you took away from your home as that isn't going down your drain so why should you have to pay the sewerage cost on it?

No you only pay the cubic meter water charge not the additional sewerage charge as the waist goes on the garden not into the water companies drains .

I would challenge that provided the waist doesn’t go into there drains they should give you the discount , they came and looked at mine and said yes no problem.

I called when we first came here. They said they had an inspector in the area who would pop by and advise me. He said I need a WRAS approved water meter installed and that it needs to be installed in a fixed area that they can access in order to read it (I.E not inside my garage) he then said once that was installed I would need to prove the water was heading into a suitable soakaway. The soakaway surrounding the house can't be used of course as long term this could cause problems. The soakaways installed on the gardens are essentially fake, they are solid underneath with a small amount of material placed on top for aesthetics. They would fill and flood quickly. I can't argue with his facts ??‍♂️

My sub meter is under my sink and I have a remote reader on the outside that can be read with an electronic reader . provided  the waist water doesn’t go into there drains the discount applies . I have never had any issues , had it since 2004 .

Oh I didn't realise that, thanks! I assumed that as you take the Pure away that wasn't going into the Water companies drains so no sewerage charge on that.

So to avoid sewerage charges on pure production you need a soak away?
