Hi

As I’ve only been window cleaning a couple of months, I was wondering coming into winter, what works best for stopping your water freezing in the tank? This is something I hear does seem to happen. Some have mentioned that as long as you take your reel in each night it isn’t an issue really etc. What have you found?

Cheers

I now have a heater in the van set to 3° to avoid freezing. I have only had the top of my tank freeze before, but we don't have it that cold up here. You need really, really harsh weather for the entire tank to freeze solid, and then you probably can't clean windows anyway.

The main issues with freezing is not the tank but the hoses and pump. Since the body of water in them is small it's quick to freeze and do damage to couplings etc. Draining the pump and hose is a good idea.

This is a question every new window cleaner asks.

There is a search box at the top right hand side of the screen of the main window cleaning menu. Type "winter water freezing" you find find lots of responses to similar questions.

I stick a de-humidifier in the van overnight which also acts a heater.

My reel is permanently fixed in the van so I can't easily remove it. There has been the odd occasion where the water in the reel has frozen so I just park the van, rear doors open & facing sun - within about 15/20 minutes it usually thaws out.

We had a -4 other week , I have no heating in Van and the only thing that froze (slightly) was the pump. The frost came after three days of constant rain , it caught quiet a few out.

im a trad window cleaner my friend so i really dont know the answer to this, but i just squirt a little anti freeze in me bucket as i go along, always worked for me,

Electric oil filled radiator in the back on a low setting should help , old duvet over the tank and pumps will be good  or electric fan heater on low , these where what I did before having  diesel heater with frost stat .
