I noticed that a few people end up as a franchise

What are the benefits of this as opposed employing people and growing that way?

Is it less stress?

better for tax or vat?

Thanks

I believe most do it to get round vat and employment law.

You would make more employing direct but would probably have more stress and overheads.
Pretty much. There are a few franchise options out there that are good for window cleaners like @Damo 's franchise. But there are also a lot of companies that operate solely as a Window Cleaning franchise selling business and don't really care whether you succeed or not as you're stuck paying them either way.

Depending on what you offer with your franchise package you may make 2-5k with the first one off payment with the rest covering things like equipment you've included, etc. Then you'll typically earn 300-500 a month thereafter in royalties.

An employee however might earn 80 pound a day, if your round is bringing in 240 a day for example, the rest of that is in your pocket but you have to pay for things like holiday, sick pay, equipment failures, vehicle problems etc.

Window cleaning and franchising has only really started to take off in the last 12 months I’d say. I started in 2016 and wasn’t really heard off.

I tried employing twice and it’s really hard to get good people. The reason being is it’s so easy to setup as a window cleaner now as A it’s easier to clean windows and B There’s so much free information out there on how to build your business.

As for less stress, I would say franchising is more stressful but I don’t have a lot to compare that to.

With regards to VAT & Tax it’s no different to Tax avoidance and tax evasion. Franchising is completely legal but it’s so new to window cleaning that people just don’t understand it.
