As you guys say, it probably depends what you're after /emoticons/smile.png If you're likely to do almost every form of cleaning in plenty of different scenarios then it might be best to follow your lead @SPCleaning @Smurf. But it may work out better to follow other options if you're not intending to offer such a wide variety of services /emoticons/smile.png

Depending on what it is you're doing @SPCleaning , items worked upon are covered (i.e. if you're cleaning an item and you break it whilst cleaning then it's covered), and you'll usually find these will have a higher excess with most insurers. The public liability is covering for accidental damage you cause - for example putting up your ladder and knocking it into some glass which then breaks /emoticons/smile.png

Do you offer a full range of cleaning activities then? Can imagine that requires a lot of gear! And a wide skill-set!

Best with any type of pl insurance policy you are thinking of taking out you read the small print what you are actualy covered for. All insurance brokers will take your money year after year but they do like to riggle out of any claims if they can.

You pays for what you get in this world and most think a basic pl insurance is all that they need but infact I think they are leaving themselves short as will be under insured.

Precisely @Smurf, always check for endorsements, exclusions etc. because if you're not covered properly it's not worth the paper it's printed on /emoticons/smile.png

What is covered by Public Liability Insurance?

That really depends on who your insurer is as not all policies are the same. Public Liability Insurance provides cover if, as a result of your business, any party brings a claim against you for which you are legally liable for:

1. bodily injury or property damage occurring during the period of insurance
   
2. personal injury or denial of access committed during the period of insurance
   

You will find that most policies however exclude damage caused to property being worked on. So if you were to damage whatever you were cleaning it wouldn't be covered. You will notice that we make a big deal of the fact that our policy DOES cover damage to property worked on because we feel that this cover is very important as it is the most likely cause of any claim being brought against you.

Hi it always makes me laugh when agents are giving away things when selling you something .Unless you only have half a brain you must realize you are paying for it by the product being loaded by at least the same amount.

I think I posted this before, but I contacted gleaming (upon Smurfs recommendation in a post) and asked for:

Public liability

Employers Liability

They came back with a quote of over £700 per year

I asked how the two separate policies broke down (how much each policy on it's own)

The said the policies were just one policy and did not break down (couldn't be split)

I pointed out with all other insures the policies were individual (separate to each other)

They replied not with them.

I asked how they justified being twice the price and then a bit of my current insurer and to date have been ignored, I have now asked them via email on 3 occasions why and they can not be bothered to answer.

Before Simply jump on this I have also contacted your company and been told the policy would not cover properties being worked on (Should I have taken a policy with you)

As for £25? I'll do an extra 30 minutes work today. Why p*ss about trying to give people referral 'cash' or toys. If you want the business, have the best policies at the best prices and stop dicking about and being so greedy with your premiums after all most of us will never make a claim above or beyond our excess agreement.

The thing is green, a mate of mine refered me and we both got 25 quid, now yes that's not much, but pays towards the insurance so it's a no brainer, if it's there on a plate -you may as well take it.

Plus they were one of the cheapest for me anyway, so it was just an added bonus

Yeah i found that overall you were one of the cheapest for what I needed - covering wfp and trad. Good customer service, and a good price - that's all you want really, as long as your covered for what you need and your dealt with efficently then all is good!

So are you also insured to say clean solar panels, conservatories, guttering, fascias etc using wfp being worked appon and any tools/products used too or have you just got a basic public liability cover for trad & wfp window cleaners?

I believe public liability but can't be sure as not at home and haven't got the policy with me!

It's all I wanted, I don't do enough solar panels or gutters to even contemplate it, I perhaps do 1-2 cuter jobs every 6 months, as for solar panels I've only ever cleaned one houses solar panels.

I'll have a look when home to confirm.

That's great, I personally never have a customers keys nor do I ever need to lock up after I've been etc,

But for you that's good cover!

You jump on the one single positive point you can cling to Simply, how about addressing the fact of you wont actually cover the item being worked upon? Let's start there. Why not when others will.?
