Nightmare connected wire’s wrong way this morning reel started spinning wrong way caused back lash and smoked the speed controller £204 for new one ? lesson learned don’t rush in morning

Oops. It's quite surprising that they don't have any reverse polarity protection.
I assume it's not a spring controller as if is was @Ian Sheppard might do a repair service or a replacement circuit board?

That's bad crack, how come you were on with the electrics I thought you'd had the reel a few weeks now

Oops. They don't come supplied with an inline fuse so I add this to our orders as a precaution.

They have a fuse on the positive but it’s fick metal fuse like I’ve never seen had it 4 months the manual reel no longer works something broke on that area ?‍ the xline not looking like it’s going to last bearings looking bit rusty already ?

Doesn't sound good. Unfortunately a fuse on the +ve wire won't help if you connect it the wrong way round as the -ve lead didn't have a fuse and was connected to the battery +ve then shorted to ground via the circuit board and chassis of the reel!

Before the bearings get too badly rusted spray some lithium grease in there as that is good at staying put and doesn't mind water too much.

I’ve noticed metal files underneath the bearings I’ve sprayed with the grease hope they last a few years at least ??

If I connect the 3 blue wires and connect the 3 white wires will that bypass the soft start?

I am guessing here but I would say you have the main power feed, the feed to the motor and the switch wire. I'm not sure the switch is capable of switching the high current the motor reel needs as the controller took care of the high current. So you need a relay to handle the current controlled by your push button.

You really need a multimeter to determine what cables does what.

You just need a pwm controller, but you really could so with one with current detection? How much is a new controller?

I'm currently involved in designing one for an entity. As I find it interesting and have a levels in electronics and software, mind as well use my knowledge somewhere lol

Might be worth speaking to @Ian Sheppard as they have some great controllers - I'm sure they do a reel controller.

I'm glad you are going to replace the soft start. It's there for a reason @tench0771 to cushion the shock caused when the contacts make contact.

The cables cores may also have been damaged by heat as such I would suggest replacing the wiring. The V16 HC RW reel winder controller is designed for use with a electric reel, It has snag protection, adjustable speeds, soft start. As with all electroics re do recommend a fuse is fitted in line between the battery and controller. The controller is fitted with a Diode so that in the event of an error when making connections in many cases the diode will go which can be repaired
