I took the yellow caps out a few years ago and replaced them with wooden inserts that once wedged in then extend about 6 inch with an angle on, this gives excellent grip on the sills and leaves no damage/aluminium marks on the sills

The surface that comes into contact with the wall or sill, cant find a good pic but you can just about see what i mean in this pic if you look carefully

great idea...i mean i have the mits but its a pain to put them on and off....soon as i wear them out i wont be replacing them...

me wear them out what a laugh....well i will try....

Another good thing about doing this is, you dont knacker the aluminium styles at the ends and cause sharp burrs, and if you make the wooden extensions 8-10 inch long it feels safer because you can reach a bit further whilst still holding on
