Hey all,

As always whenever I have a query it's you lovely lot first to be asked.

A friend of mine runs a swimming company and has a large 'endless pool' indoors. It is made of millboard composite and he's asked me to clean it for him. It has some black spots on it like you would find on patio's so I'm thinking a pump up sprayed with a weak hypo mix and thorough rinse down. What do people suggest for this material?

He also has some stained whiteboards/all surfaces that want cleaning, again, is a weak hypo mix going to work on these? I'm quite inexperienced with softwashing/ not using pressure.

Thank you in advance ?

Ime guessing a weak mix won’t kill it if it’s algi and using a strong mix on plastic can cause permanent damage so felt it was best tk keep quite a d let ones like you that are far better with chemical make up give advice , Ime always happy to learn as well .

As long as he uses hypo for his pool treatment you shouldn’t have any issues using it poolside - like you say, start off with a weak solution and increase the potency. I’ve used neat hypo poolside before, just double check what kind of drainage they have - as some pools I’ve worked on recycle all the water around the pool - so it gets dragged back to the main pool filtration. Most modern filters can cope with sudden spikes in free chlorine and Ph levels.

Cheers mate, he uses hypo yeah, obviously in the pool it's very low. Luckily I have experience working in a poolside environment and done some cleaning before, never heard of this material before though!

I will do a test patch with neat as I imagine this is what he will want, and do my best to minimize the amount that enters drainage and the actual pool itself.
Thanks again and I will keep you updated.

Make sure you wear PPE - I had to ‘shock’ a pool once after a kid did a **** ? in it. I spent the best part of 4 hours brushing the bottom of the pool to help circulate the extra hypo and speed up the process - I was physically sick for two days afterwards. Never felt so I’ll !! You should be Ok with the millboard, if it’s installed in a pool environment and it’s lasted you should get away with a strong mix, just do your test patch on a few small areas (different boards). Good luck ? let us know how you get on.

I realise this question was asked some time ago but only just seen it and I thought maybe better late than never in case you haven't done the job yet - anyway, there are various specalist products designed for composite decking e.g. Compo clean.

But there are others more specifically for algae etc. You might have to wait a while to see the results but it's a safe way of doing composite decks without the risk of damage.

I was talking to a customer yesterday about this and the firm that manufacture the decking suggested  jeyes  fluid to kill the algi , that was there advice , it was a new one on me ????

Yeah I've never heard of that either and good to know - and you'd lke to think they know their product inside out so have to assume it works. Do you know if it was the older non-capped type of composite or the capped?

It’s got solid ends but is plastic , cost around 20 k for the job to be done and it’s not that big ????
