I’ve got a 2014 Peugeot Partner diesel van and the engine fan runs for 10/15 mins after each time I stop. This accumulates during the day and is obviously draining the battery. My garage are unsure of the cause of this but have advised to have the dpf cleaned. Anyone else experienced this problem ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would take it to a main dealer they should be able to diagnose the fault guessing it’s trying to do a re gen
I know that makes sense, just had a new clutch and cam belt so was trying to keep further costs to a minimum. The diagnosis cost at main dealer is £180, same as a dpf clean at the local garage.

Your engine must be overheating or the sensor/fan is faulty

My engines fan runs occasionally after I turn the engine off but this only happens in the summer on a hot day

Is your radiator OK?no leaks?

No it’s not overheating. The fan comes on even if I’ve only driven a couple of miles and the engine temp is low. No radiator leaks. I did consider the temp sensor but garage advised a long drive first which I’ve done so just weighing up my next move.

My wifes' Berlingo does the same intermittently, I have no idea why but it's never caused any issues or thrown up any faults.

Are you aware that van will most like have pre-AdBlue additive tank it's called Eolys fluid and the tank is on the underside of the van it usually last around 100k but you will get no prior warning and it will need to go to a garage once the warning light comes on

Just done a search and it's coming up with dpf regeneration not completed, now the thing with a regen and taking it down the motorway it just doesn't happen because you have driven for 200 minutes down the motorway.

My wife forgot to tell me a few weeks ago that she had the dpf clogged warning come up until 2-3 days after, I took it down the motorway on a 45 minute drive in 4th gear and the warning still hadn't gone off, my insisted I came back home, which I did,

After my return home I decided to go back out again, I picked up some redex at the garage as it was after 6pm their was only 1/4 of a tank of diesel so I thought the redex might give it a a better chance and I took off down the motorway way again I was on the motorway for over 20 miles before the warning light went off.

I don't think regens just happen because of drive down the motorway sometime ago I found a forum and one guy stated that the ecu will initiate a regen not a drive down the motorway

Has a similar thing with my Berlingo. Got it serviced and checked over and they said DPF. Suggested I ran it up the carriageway to one of the nearest towns and straight back every couple of weeks (this is about 25 miles non stop).

I think the fan runs when it's doing the regen and if you happen to stop during or shortly after it carries on running to keep temps down. If you know it's just done a regen then maybe a bit of slow driving to cool the turbo down a bit as shutting off with a very hot turbo will cook the oil and start restricting the oil drain back to the sump.

I believe that during a regen the ecu also commands the heated mirrors on (if you have them) and the glow plugs on to increase the load on the engine. Some people add an led to the door mirror (connected to the mirror element) or connected to the glow plugs to give a visual indication of a regen taking place.

No heated mirrors, my wife does a few miles more than me but not enough to do a regent, when it's camping season we are enough to not have any issues, but now we aren't going away it's not get the run out it needs as often,

Surprisingly I never got issues with my old Doblo and neither have I had issues with my berlingo.

Fan runs while dpf is regenerating and may continue when engine turned off. If it's doing it alot the dpf isn't fully regenerating. May need a good thrash up the motorway (whilst in regeneration). Or as your mechanic says ... dpf clean.
