Hi guys,

Just cleaning a new job and have found rust spots eaten into glass..
I’m not new to window cleaning but can’t remember seeing these so bad.
Any ideas on causes and is there a remedy as a blade isn’t taking them off..
Maybe new glass is the only way forward???

All the best fellows

Thanks Dazmond for reply… That’s interesting.

It’s right around the whole house on the lower floor.. Would that come from cutting patio slabs type of thing?
Yes.

We have a customer who painted some steelwork outside his back door and window with metal etch primer with a paint brush. Those splashes of primer also ate into the glass. The customer told me that.

But if it as you describe, some trade has been cutting paving blocks as @dazmond has advised.

It's not rust it's sparks from an angle grinder that have sprayed out and embedded into the glass!

You can't remove it! Glass replacement is the only solution.
correct. Took me a while to get to the bottom of above problem myself a while back. Spot on

My mates house has something similar, one window covered in black dots that wont budge even scouring. Its near a porch and I reckon when something was done to the metal support pole it spattered on from there. Similarly bad is that brick pointing sealer people get put on older brickwork nowdays. Often it must be done with no thought to the glass. ive two adjoining customers who both got this done, and some of the sealant must have gone onto some of the windows. Tried hard to shift, just seems imbedded into the glass. Same on the pvc sills, eats into them and never come up good again.
