Scratched window

I've had a customer telling me I've scratched her sill with my brush, load of ballcocks, it looked like a builder had used a Stanley knife to get the plastic covering off. I've also seen loads of glass where the cat or dog has clawed at the glass and scratched it.
Alex, you say it was a first clean, was it a first clean after building work or that they hadn't been cleaned in a long time? I hope you freekin charged this cousin of yours!

Hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Yes I did charge but nothing much as 'family' but that won't be happening again.

Sounds like they knew the schrates were there in the beginning and think it would be nice to have you to pay a new Glass. Those ppl exist sadly.

tell them you have invested in the best brushes you can get ( as you shove it up there nose ) I would put the full pantomine on as I point to the scratched windows with disgust, remember thes tubes are wanting you to pay for there new windows so you have to fight your corner

They got to be at least 3 years old. It just makes me chuckle as I have cleaned for some right fuddy duddys and thought these are going to be hassle, but not one issus.

Clean for a family member and get this. Cracks me up

I'm Trad. But. there is no way a top brand is going to sell a product that scratches windows mate. Sounds like some one has had a go at this with a wire brush of some sort. I know how you feel tho'. But. it shows that you want to do your best. Try not to worry about it. And crack on getting your work in... I managed to rip abit of guttering down the other week. Was cleaning a conny roof in the rain and all of a sudden... Crash. I ended up out of pocket. Went back on the Sunday and repaired it. Two new brackets and sealed it etc. But. when I looked a it closely it only had one bloody bracket supporting a long length of guttering. When you think about it. All that weight with wet moss and grime. it's going to crash to the floor. If there Windows were rough before you came along. Then they were most likely in a state before hand. Ive seen scratches everywhere l do. I've seen chips all over glass where people bloody weld next to there back door. Dogs scratch them. Crap flying up from a lawnmower. And new builds seem to have the cheapest grade glass in. Listed buildings have better glass lol. You cleaned the Windows. You clean loads of Windows. So. why would your brush do it to this window and not others.. Not your fault...

I have plenty of custys with scratched glass..not once have i been blamedIf i notice any on new cleans i always point them out to avoid them playing the blame game once I've gone

I always do that Davey, i ask them over to look before I go any further. There are loads of scratched panels of glass here with the dust and sand that gets blown in the air, kids playing at the sliding doors, aninals causing them and like you say most only notice once the grime had been washed away.

I'm on a new build estate and everyone of the houses I do has badly scratched Windows, the builders just didn't give a **** about them by the looks when building the homes, one even has a cross dead centre of the pane as if they have just used a Stanley to rip open the plastic on the pane. I made sure I said to the owners straight away and some even mentioned to me before hand. It's a ridiculous state for Windows to be in on a new build.

Popped over there today to have a good look again and could see a few vertical lines in the patio door window. There seems to be a rubbery feel to the glass as If it is coated with a film.

Could this make any difference. The scratch is so hard to see. You would have to be looking really hard at it to see it.

Do a sparkle clean once and you'll be surprised how much the builders rape the glass before people move in. /emoticons/ohmy.png

Just thought I would update this if anybody else gets the same issue.

Cleaned my mum's today and the sun was out. Her one door (sliding one) was scratched to hell all faint marks in every direction and angle, door next to it nothing and every other window nothing. Got me confused and needed an answer. Messaged Alex and this was the reply. Really put my mind at ease. Thanks again.

Hi Alex

I can put your mind to rest - the scratches will not have been caused by the brushes or by cleaning them with the WFP method. The bristle material is far too soft to make any marks on glass. Even if you had dipped them in grit it would still be very difficult to have caused any scratching due to the soft bristles and the flowing water.

Scratching can sometimes appear after a first clean with pure water - why? The scratching is usually already on the glass but traditional cleaning methods allows detergent residue and dirt to remain in the scratch which makes it less visible under sunlight. When a window is properly cleaned with pure water all of the residue and dirt is fully flushed out from the scratches. This then allows the sunlight to catch the facets of the scratch and it shows up - much like having a diamond ring cleaned will allow it to sparkle and shine more.

Patio doors and french doors often get a lot of use with people and pets brushing by. Knocks from bags, buckles, belt, pets claws, etc. will leave, over time, a lot of small scratch marks. Your cleaning has simply made these more visible. Any glass that comes into regular contact with people and other things will almost from new start picking up small scratches.
