Hi this is my first pump as installing first van system i've bought a second hand shurflo pump and the pump has only the 2 red n black wires out the top it has no red pressure switch wires with the white plugs do i need these wires for pump or pressure switch to function properly? Thanks

Two black wires? I thought there was only one?
What controller are you using? If you aren’t going to connect a pressure switch you just connect the red and black wires (at the metal end of the pump) to your controller.

2 wires 1 red 1 black out of top of pump. I have no wires from pressure switch do i not need the pressure switch then? will the pump stop when i switch off univalve / tap etc?  i have a safe reach systems ( safe flow) analogue controller.

Sorry I misinterpreted your original post. I don’t know anything about the particular controller you have but would assume the pressure switch is needed for a non digital controller. Spruce will shed some light on this as I’ve only used shurflo pumps with a PX sw

When I bought my shurflo pump new It had wires connected to the pressure switch but as I had a varistream digital controller I removed the pressure switch and wires from the pump. I guess who owned it before did the same. You can buy a genuine pressure switch with the wires for around £30 but if the switch is still on your pump I would just make up a bit of wire to fit. Also seen this switch on eBay much cheaper and always handy to have a spare. Hope this is of help. Had a few[emoji481] so maybe wrong !Screenshot_20180826-201512_eBay.jpeg20180826_201119.jpeg

Yeah the pressure switch is still on the pump will i just need one piece of red wire as there are two connections on the switch sorry never done this before my first pump too?

Dear @Squeaky Clean Windows, I don't want to be rude, but to connect up a pump like this properly and safely requires just a tiny basic understanding on how electronics, wiring and switches work.

I can recommend reading this https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/switch-basics to learn about switch types.

And this YouTube series is great as an introduction to electronics.

Basically what you need to do is wire up the pressure switch in series with the pump. So red wire goes into the switch, and another (red) wire out of the switch.

For this you need the proper gauge wire on the length required to reach your controller, and preferrably some spade connectors and proper crimp tools. I guess you could solder it, but that makes potentially changing the switch out later a bit of a hassle.

Don't want to bring you down, but just want you to not create a potential fire hazard that could put you in danger.

If in doubt, have a friend show you.

Buying some second hand equipment is the issue as some people will sell anything more so on flea bay and provide limited info, I am near enough clueless with diy stuff so prefer to buy new from a reputable supplier. Hopefully @Nudel has answered your issue with links posted.

Funny. I thought I replied to this post and dug out a photo as well.

No. You need a pressure switch if you are connecting your pump up to that safeflow controller.

The only controllers you don't need a pressure switch with are Varistreams and Spring controllers and their various rebadged forms. These controllers have built in pressure switches. (They work by cutting the power when a certain current draw it reached. The higher the pressure the more current the pump draws. You calibrate the controller to the cutoff point that suits your application.

After watching a couple of youtube vids i see that the red wire coming from pump goes into the bottom connection on the pressure switch and the other red wire from top connection of pressure switch is this correct? so i take it this red wire goes to controller is this correct and this is the one i need to replace?

There are switches floating around that are 6 amp rated so won't last '5 minutes'. You need one rated at 15 amp which is what the original part was rated at. I don't know what this switch is rated at.

This was done to help someone remove the p/s wire for a Varistream connection. Just do it the other way around
